Dispensing Optician
Job Type:

Job Description
Scheduling and answering patient concerns and scheduling. Working with vision and medical insurance authorizations and claims. Fitting, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames for client according to written optical prescription or specification. Assist client with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses. Assist client with selecting frames. Measure customer for size of eyeglasses and coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription. Prepare work order for optical laboratory containing instructions for grinding and mounting lenses in frames. Verify exactness of finished lens spectacles. Adjust frame and lens position to fit client. May shape or reshape frames. Includes contact lens opticians. (US Department of Labor)
Essential Job Duties, Key Functions & Responsibilities
Receive customers’ prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses
Measure customers’ eyes and faces, i.e. distance between their pupils
Assist patients/customers choose eyeglass frames and lens treatments, such as eyewear for occupational use or sports, tints, or antireflective coatings, based on their vision needs and style preferences.
Create work orders for ophthalmic laboratory work, providing information about the lenses needed.
Adjust eyewear to ensure a good fit.
Repair or replace broken eyeglass frames.
Educate customers about eyewear—for example, show them how to care for their contact lenses.
Maintain detailed, accurate and complete patient medical records.
Other Responsibilities
Prepare patient insurance authorizations and process claims.
Perform business tasks, such as maintaining sales records, keeping track of patients’ prescriptions, and ordering
Maintain inventory and place orders as needed
Handle various electronic files and insurance matters.
Manage multiple tasks and be attentive to details.
Complete sales transactions
Provide customer service addressing various patients’ needs.
Job Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of work experience as optician in retail environment.
Minimum Educational requirements
Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.
Associate degree and/or Optician certification preferred.
Other Qualifications
Written and oral fluency in English required.
Proficiency in computer skills and use of computer software programs required (including but not limited to MS Office, Internet, use of other online applications).
Good typing skills (minimum of 35 wpm)-candidates will be asked to demonstrate typing skills.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Great professional interpersonal skills, including good listening, usingproper language and following through directions.
Must be self-initiator and be able to multitask.
Must show evidence of dependability and strong work ethic
Must have valid California drivers license, car insurance, and independent mode of transportation.
