OptimaEd is Hiring a Chief Operating Officer - Naples Classical Academy Near Naples, FL

The Chief Operating Officer will oversee all operational, financial, compliance, and business administration aspects of the school. This will be a salaried, exempt position with a 12-month work schedule. Salary will be set annually on a performance-based schedule. The COO will report to the Head of School.

The Chief Operating Officer’s essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Attendance at Governing Board and Committee Meetings; Communication with Governing Board

The COO will coordinate with the chairperson of the board and charter school Head of School to determine which items need to be included in the board and committee meeting agendas. The COO will also coordinate with the board members to schedule and arrange for proper notice of board meetings as such notice is required by the charter contract and applicable laws; COO will attend all board and committee meetings. The COO will provide monthly financial and compliance reports to the board with necessary supporting documentation prior to each board meeting to ensure that board members are prepared to address at the board meeting.

  •  Administrative Services

Personnel Management: Non-Instruction Staff

Identify, recommend for hire, train, evaluate, discipline, and recommend for termination of all non-instructional staff.

Facility Operation and Maintenance

Coordinate with the Facilities Manager for the provision of operation and maintenance services for the charter school's facility.

Business Administration

Administer all “non-academic” aspects of school operations, including, but not limited to, financial management, compliance management (including compliance with state accountability and charter contract requirements), safety and security, marketing, program management (including food service, school clinic/wellness program, front office (customer service), before and after school enrichment (BASE), extracurricular activities, athletics, clubs, and any other operations-related initiatives), legal/corporate upkeep, and books/records maintenance. Coordinate with human resources, finance, compliance, and other vendors to maintain strong relationships and adherence to contractual commitments.

Government Relations

Manage all government relations efforts, including maintaining positive relationships with local and state elected officials and staff.

Marketing

Manage all marketing initiatives including advertising, media, public relations, community relations, and outreach programs. Oversee adherence and execution of all Public Records Request submissions.

Budgeting, Budgeting Process, Financial and Other Reporting

  1. Prepare a proposed annual budget for Finance Committee consideration and further recommendations for board determination.
  2. Prepare budget modifications or amendments as needed.
  3. Provide the board with enrollment reports, to include recommendations for remediation of projected enrollment shortfalls.
  4. Oversee the preparation of detailed statements of all revenues and expenses and other financial statements as required, including such documentation as may be reasonably required by the independent certified public accountants and auditors.
  5. Oversee the preparation of all reporting and documentation required by the sponsoring school district.
  6. Oversee the preparation of all reporting and documentation required by the Florida Department of Education.
  7. Preparation of other information on a periodic basis reasonably necessary to enable the school board to monitor the Chief Operating Officer's performance including the effectiveness and efficiency of school operations.
  • Maintenance of Financial and Student Records and Enrollment Data

The COO will maintain accurate financial and student records pertaining to the operation of the school and prepare monthly enrollment reports to include added and dropped students and attrition by grade level.

  •  Student Recruitment

The COO will play a pivotal role in achieving lead generation and application targets, operating under the guidance of the Head of School. Tasked with formulating an effective enrollment plan, the COO will determine the necessary quantity of leads and applications essential for meeting enrollment objectives. In addition, the COO will be responsible for implementing strategies within the enrollment plan to cultivate and sustain a robust enrollment waitlist, ensuring the long-term health of the enrollment process.

  •  Rules and Procedures

The COO shall propose reasonable policies and procedures applicable to the school. From time to time, as changes in governing legislation may warrant, the COO is to propose recommended changes to existing school policy and procedures so to ensure adherence to new governing legislation. The COO is authorized and directed by the board to assist the Head of School and School Leadership in the enforcement of said policies and procedures so adopted by the board.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Preferred candidates will have an understanding of classical education and Florida charter school operations.
    • Preferred candidates will have a business or finance background, a record of leadership, and excellent communication skills.
    • Five (5) years of professional management experience required. Associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree preferred.
