Cable Service Specialist I

Job Details:

The Service Technician I (SVT I) is the entry level of the advanced Service Technician position within the Field Services department. The SVT I is responsible for outside plant maintenance of the Company’s RF based coaxial systems.

This technician has completed and shown significant competency in both the BBT I and BBT II positions. The SVT I performs advanced measurements and various service tests to maintain the Company’s services throughout the coaxial based systems.

The Service Technician I is the entry level of advanced service technicians within the Company, and career advancement is dependent upon completion of proper certifications within the company and/or a thorough display of competence within all tasks associated with SVT I.

Specific Job Duties:

Performs all duties of the BBT I and BBT II positions as needed including reconnects, disconnects, change of service requests, installs IPTV based set top boxes (STB), cable modems, multimedia terminal adapters, L-Band systems, phone service, FTTH installations and all associated troubleshooting at the home/premise.

Performs outside plant (OSP) maintenance by performing advanced measurements including BER, MER, CNR, HUM, CTB and CSO to verify compliance with FCC and internal requirements.

Operates cable specific hand tools to core and splice hardline connections to active and passive devices within the system including amplifiers, line extenders, taps, directional couplers, splitters, and power supplies.

Balances and maintains forward plant operation using spectrum analyzers and advanced signal level meters to set line extenders and system amplifier gain parameters.

Assists in the construction of new and repair of existing coaxial infrastructure including various hardline coaxial cable types and fiber cables.

Installs and maintains redundant and non-redundant power supplies within the cable system infrastructure.

Provides daily, weekly, and monthly reporting on system performance and service call outcomes.

Works with Engineering on the design, installation, and maintenance of shared wireless networks.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and operate at heights up to 40 feet using extension ladders and/or bucket truck. Ability to work while standing 50-70% of the time.

Work in all weather conditions and in various spaces such as attics and crawl spaces. Must be able to perform the tasks assigned in these areas that may be poorly ventilated and where there may be dirt, dust, noise, insects, rodents, pets, and cleaning supplies.

Work in areas near power lines and active electrical services.

Familiarity with computer operating systems and a variety of customer devices including smartphones, computers, routers, modems, set top boxes and wireless devices.

Ability to and willingness to learn to use various handheld devices including signal level meters, spectrum analyzers, digital multi-meters as well as computer provided laptop and various software.

A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record that fall within company requirements.

Must be able to travel to and from assigned territories and company facilities, including during inclement weather.
