Optical Cable Corporation is Hiring a Manufacturing Engineer Near Plano, TX

Basic Function:

Responsible for designing manufacturing tooling and development processes for harsh environment and specialty connectivity products. Determines the parts, equipment and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications.

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Designs new tooling, processes and procedures for new AIS products.
  • Makes improvements to current processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Works with the Design Engineer to build prototype products for process validation.
  • Ensures that fellow design and development, manufacturing, and quality team members are properly trained and equipped for success when transitioning products from design and development to manufacturing.
  • Sustains equipment and tooling used in Production.
  • Investigate production issues.
  • Stays abreast of industry best practices, technology trends, and new opportunities for improving division products and processes.
  • Maintains documentation for ISO requirements.

Job Scope:

  • Managerial: None
  • Communication: Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written skills. Such skills will be essential in developing work instructions. Daily communication with all levels of employees.
  • Confidentiality: All documentation and paperwork is confidential to OCC.
  • Travel: Minimal.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar industry is preferred. Experience with fiber optic termination process preferred.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

  • This position requires excellent computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel).
  • Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.
  • Experience in writing technical documents will be desired. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly and concisely.
  • Must be capable of solving technical problems and providing sound solutions. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to organize, complete tasks, and manage time. Ability to read and understand product design drawings, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Use precision measurement tools and devices such as Optical Light Source, Power Meters, Network Analyzers, Time Domain Reflectometers, and high voltage testing equipment
  • Experience using an ERP system such as Syspro preferred.
  • Experience using Computer Aided Design software preferred.

Working Conditions:This is a sedentary job that requires vision sufficient for reading and hearing sufficient for communication with coworkers. Significant testing requires sufficient manual dexterity. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
