Position SummaryThe Industrial Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation systems to optimize manufacturing processes. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, conducting feasibility studies, and overseeing the installation and maintenance of automation equipment. S/he is responsible for the project management and complete design of the mechanical systems, and electrical and controls functions of equipment in NAM MS plants, aiming to improve the productivity of each plant by increasing both the production ratio and reliability. Design, analyze and implement mechanical processes, generating mechanical assemblies, developing machine function algorithms, and debugging mechanical designs are the normal tasks that are done daily. Specification and programming of PLCs, robots and servos also need to be done from time to time. Responsibilities include troubleshooting systems on equipment and maintaining software, robotics, and machinery in a manufacturing facility. S/he will also set up, install, monitor new equipment, program, adjust process controls, purchase, and maintain stock levels of all necessary electronic equipment. S/he stays within company standards and industry best practices when preparing project scopes, design concepts, bills of material, specifications, and cost estimates for production. Duties/ResponsibilitiesKnowledge resource for process instrumentation, control systems, and automation field.Design and implement industrial automation systems to improve efficiency and productivity.Design mechanical systems for new, or modify existing, machinery to automate processes.Prepare P&ID, electrical drawings, control schematics, loop, and network communication diagrams.Develop detailed automation project roadmap from developing concepts to final implementation.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation needs and develop solutions.Conduct feasibility / cost-benefits studies and man to machine analysis for automation projects.Configure, program, and troubleshoot PLC’s, HMI, DCS, and SCADA systems.Resolve issues with electrical and automation systems, including hardware and software components.Develop system architecture design documentation for automation and autonomous solutions.Create instrument index, I/O testing, and documentation through the course of each project.Conduct regular maintenance and upgrades of automation systems to ensure optimal performance.Read and interpret 2D, 3D and assembly CAD drawings.Implement safety protocols, procedures and ensure cyber security for automated processes.Knowledge and understanding of NFPA79, IEC60204-1 and UL 508A standards.Train and provide technical support to operators and maintenance personnel on automation systems.Monitor and analyze data from automation systems to identify areas for performance improvement. Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for newly established automated equipment/processes.Stay updated with the latest advancements in industrial automation technology.Required Skills/Abilities Electronic Control Systems: Allen-Bradley control systems, designing ladder diagram, PLC ladder logic, PLC Siemens programmable logic controller (PLC), Mitsubishi PLC programmingPLC programming including Allen Bradley, ControlLogix/RS logix, Siemens S7 and FanucDevelop 2D sketches for equipment/plant floor layout using CAD softwareIndustrial automation: Industrial automation skills, process automation and robotics skillsAnalytical thinking: Gathering information and data Identifying cause and effect relationshipsCollaboration & Teamwork: Involving others in making decisions towards common goalsProblem-solving: Identifying and anticipating problems, implementing solutions, making fact-based decisions to solve problems, and working with others to solve problemsLean Manufacturing knowledge is a plusExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar softwareEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent engineering or related fieldMaster’s degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial engineering would be an assetAt least 5 years of related experience requiredStrong knowledge of industrial automation systems and technologiesProficiency in programming languages such as PLC, SCADA, and HMIExperience in designing and implementing automation solutions for manufacturing processesAbility to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to industrial automation systemsPhysical RequirementsProlonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computerMust be able to access and navigate the production facilityMust be able to lift 15 pounds at a time
