Position: Front Desk Receptionist
Reports to: Clinic Supervisor
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Salary: $20.00 - $24.00

Operation Samahan (OPSAM Health) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves the northern and southern regions of San Diego County. OPSAM Health was founded in 1973 in a barber shop in Downtown San Diego by Filipino health professionals offering services to immigrants who did not have the finances, linguistic skills, or ability to navigate the health care system.

Today, OPSAM Health has evolved into a respected, high-quality community health center with services available in National City, Mira Mesa, City Heights, and Rancho Penasquitos. OPSAM Health is highly committed to providing high-quality healthcare to everyone, especially those in underserved areas with limited healthcare choices. THE JOB DESCRIPTION.

Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the Front Desk Representative is responsible for various clerical and administrative duties in support of daily clinic operations and patient services. The scope of this position will encompass assisting with patient and family registration, check-in and check-out procedures, insurance verification, and appointment scheduling. The Front Desk Receptionist will update patient demographics, appointment arrival, co-pay collection (where applicable), and the printing of appropriate check-in forms.

The Front Desk Receptionist is responsible for managing and responding to eClinical Works in-basket messages, contacting patients to schedule appointments, documenting telephone encounters/staff messages via the EMR, and working closely with providers and other OPSAM Health staff to provide quality services.

Respond to and manage non-urgent and routine correspondences and assemble highly confidential and sensitive patient and educational materials. The Front Desk Receptionist is expected to use their independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload and recommend office practices or procedure changes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Prior front desk experience.
  • Experience with patient check-in/check-out
  • Demonstrated experience with insurance and authorizations.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of contracted insurance, patient benefits, and third-party requirements is preferred.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must have a high level of organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with a variety of people.
  • Demonstrate practical verbal and written communication skills with staff, Board members, vendors, medical providers, and members of the general public.
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise analytic power.
  • Read and write, verbal and written communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Prioritize, meet deadlines, and use sound judgment.
Education and Experience:
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • One year’s experience in a community health center is preferred.
  • At least one year’s front office/customer service is required, preferably in healthcare.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
