Position Overview: The role of the Executive Director is to provide consistent achievement of the organization's mission and financial objectives. The Executive Director will work closely with the Divisional Directors and the Program Leadership to support and enhance the mission, vision, and values of the Opportunity Foundation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate and direct the overall daily operations of the agency while promoting Opportunity Foundation's vision, mission, and values in the communities.
  • Assure that the organization has long-range strategies which achieve its mission.
  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff.
  • Represent Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities as needed on local and State work groups, committees, and coalitions with DD Services.
  • Participate and lead involvement on legislative and advocacy efforts at the local and state level.
  • Take ownership of all internal and external communication and publications surrounding the condition of the organization, relationships, and organization activities, programs, and goals.
  • Represent client needs through program agendas and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Encourage staff development and ensure that an effective management team is in place, while directing the hiring, training, and evaluation of all personnel.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices; working with staff, Finance Committee, and the Board to prepare budgets, ensuring that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
  • Review all payables, approving expenditures, budget development and contract negotiation for all organizational programs.
  • Oversee the operations of building ownerships including financing, leasing, maintenance, and upkeep.
  • Work with the Board of Directors, Community Partners, and the Business Relations Director and other Management Staff, continuously work to grow community and business contacts related to public relations, donor development, stewardship, fundraising activities and events.
  • Work collaboratively to receive and address public and business inquiries, maintain and build new relationships with potential donors and business partners, and seek out other sources of opportunity to contribute toward the financial sustainability of the Opportunity Foundation.
  • In coordination with management staff and other partners, lead in the grant seeking and application process to support financial sustainability and growth opportunities in line with the goals and mission of the Opportunity Foundation.
  • Work as a team with the Board of Directors.
Who You Are: The ideal candidate will have an awareness of current local, national, and global economic and political issues and a complete understanding of the business models in use within the industry. This individual will have a positive work ethic, desire to go beyond the normal required duties in terms of attitude and relationships within the foundation and community.
Other qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of experience in the field of intellectual or developmental disabilities, including at least one year providing supervision. Four years of experience in developmental disability services in Oregon may substitute a Bachelor's degree. Six years of experience in a related field (psychology, human services, education or social work) may substitute for a degree.
  • Hold a current, valid, and unrestricted professional license or certification where services and supervision requires specific professional education, training, and skill.
  • Be able to respond to emergency situations at all times services are being delivered.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license (driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier) and proof of personal vehicle insurance in compliance with the laws of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Budget development and management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities and rehabilitation systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to pass Oregon DHS criminal background check, financial background check, and must pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to complete 12 hours of job-related in-service training annually
