Opportunities Industrialization Center of Washingt is Hiring a Mentor Near Yakima, WA

Description

This position will assist in empowering youth to resolve issues and develop coping strategies for their future. A willingness to provide emotional and social support and be an active listener and offer support and encouragement. Coordinate ice breakers, team building, and participate in safe and nurturing atmosphere as a pathway to improve the economic and educational status of youth. This position conducts outreach and recruitment in the community to provide other supportive services to OIC clients. This position must establish a trusting and professional relationship with youth, businesses community partners, and employers to be able to meet the program goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Empower youth to resolve issues and develop coping strategies for their future. 
  • Provide a model for trusting relationships through clear communication. 
  • Acknowledge strengths and talents and encourage youth to use them. 
  • Be an active lister and offer support and encouragement when appropriate. 
  • Coordinate ice breakers, team building and participate in enrichment activities. 
  • Assist youth with registration and check-in procedures. 
  • Willingness to provide emotional and social support. 
  • Must be able to work on weekends, Sundays, and evenings. 
  • Participate in program event committees. 
  • Will participate in all outreach activities to provide program detailed information to the community 
  • Act as liaison for OIC with other organizations and service providers to provide mutual support and generate close working relationships. 
  • Provide participants with individual information on program services and referral services. 
  • Monitor, review, and document the progress of each participant in meeting the objectives of the program.
  • Participates in the delivery of all program activities to program participants. 
  • Periodically meet individually with the program participants to determine progress and ensure program goals are met. 
  • Develop program-specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work. 
  • Enters client, participant, and volunteer information in the program database, including, but not limited to, participant registration information, volunteer information, and attendance and usage reports. 
  • Ensure all participants are treated with dignity and respect, and all children are treated appropriately by staff, volunteers, and other participants. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year experience working with social service agencies and/or programs for at-risk populations.
  • Computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems.
