Street Maintenance Operator (Seasonal)

Position Profile

Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

Salary: $15.50 - $19.00 per hour (depending upon qualifications) opportunity for end of the season bonus! $0.50 for every hour worked

Location: Maintenance Facility Building

Hours: Typically, 7:00am-3:30pm shift; occasional overtime may be required.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Street Maintenance Manager

Public Works Department:

The Public Works Department is comprised of Engineering, the Water Treatment Plant, Utility Field Operations, Street Maintenance, Fleet Services, and Environmental Services. The department is responsible for the environmental management, design, construction, and maintenance of the street, water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure systems in the community. 

Position Details:

The Seasonal Street Maintenance Operator assists Full Time staff with a variety of maintenance activities within the public Right-of-Way.

Primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  • Asphalt patching and concrete repair of city roads, curb, trails, and sidewalks.
  • Mowing and weed whipping of City, County, and State Right-of-Way boulevards and trails.
  • Assist Sign Tech with repair/replacement of city owned signs and traffic control.
  • Tree trimming, sightline clearing, turf restoration, and weed control of roadside Right-of-Way, medians, and storm water ponds.
  • Demonstrates safe operation and maintenance of hand/power tools, power equipment (mowers, weed whips, debris blowers), light duty vehicles and equipment (pickups, asphalt rollers, skid loaders), and practicing safe work habits in and around heavy equipment and traffic on roadways.

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Position Requirements:

Driver License: Minimum valid Class D license with clean driving record.

Employee with Class A or B Commercial Vehicle License (CDL) qualify for an extra $1.00/HR upon completion of Federal DOT drug test and will be entered into the DOT random drug and alcohol testing pool.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) required.

Work Experience: Must be 18 years or older; related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift/carry/push/pull at least 30-50 lbs, operate a motor vehicle and work under all weather conditions.

Attention to Detail: Able to find errors in work and solve problems; anticipates issues and performs at a high level of accuracy; sets up systems to ensure errors are not repeated.

Sound Judgment: Able to decide based on the right mixture of facts; determines a course of action after weighing and analyzing different options.

Pre-employment Process

The City of Eden Prairie conducts professional reference and criminal history checks for all employees joining the organization. In addition, the following is required for this specific position: driver’s check (must have valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record.) A CDL process will be conducted if applicable. All final candidates must successfully complete and pass the pre-employment process before their first day of employment.
