SALARY: $130 - 140K DOE

OVERVIEW: 

The AVP, Community Outreach (2-1-1) provides leadership in support of United Way of Greater Houston’s community outreach work. The AVP's primary responsibilities are: (1) leading and further developing a strategic and comprehensive operation of the 2-1-1 Texas/United Way Helpline and (2) participating in setting a strategic direction for future efforts of the department. The AVP reports to the Vice President, Community Outreach and leads a team of professional staff. Internally, the AVP must work collaboratively across the entire organization. This position requires the coordination and support of high-level volunteers, which involves, building relationships with public and private sector institutions, nonprofit organizations and community partners.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides leadership in the implementation and continuous improvement of the 211 Texas/United Way Helpline. Oversees the operation, evaluation and strategic planning for the program, forecasting future growth and development to maintain a high standard of quality and performance. Ensures the continued development of the community resource database as an effective, up-to-date technological system.
  • Coordinates community education, marketing activities and resource development. Represents United Way on area-wide committees, promoting United Way’s role as convener of community groups for interagency and collaborative activities. Participates in emergency management response efforts during major disasters, leading the 211 response.
  • Supports the management team in development of the departmental staff and provides guidance as they perform their duties. Responsible for reviewing key activities, assignments and progress to optimize staff’s success; coaches management team on relationship management skills; counsels, guides and evaluates staff performance metrics on a regular basis. Creates an environment of open communication and leads staff to maximize productivity, creativity, and operational results.
  • Administers and ensures compliance with grants and contracts and maintains AIRS accreditation.
  • Handles other responsibilities as assigned such as special projects and organizational activities related to integrating division activity with the United Way strategic plan. Works collaboratively with select cross-functional taskforces and committees.
