As an Open Door Personnel Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) you will assume responsibility for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician in the patient care area. You will function as a member of the healthcare team under the direction of the RN or LPN and report to the Nursing Supervisor in conformity with agency and regulatory policy.

Responsibilities:

Assists patients in the following areas:

• Personal care functions including:
  • Bathing (bed, tub, shower, or sponge bath)
  • Skincare
  • Toileting (bedpan, urinal, commode, and/or toilet)
  • Grooming (shampoo, nail care, and shaving)
  • Oral hygiene (dental care)
  • Assist with dressing and undressing
• Understands and practices universal precautions with all patients
• Report any medical conditions, such as communicable diseases, that might interfere with providing direct patient care.
• Properly using transfer techniques.
• Patience and tact in dealing with patients.
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge for safe use of medical equipment (cane, crutches, walkers, Hoyer Lift, side rails, braces, splints, and oxygen).
• Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and I & O measurements.
• Helps keep resident’s room clean and supplied.
• Make and change beds (unoccupied and occupied).
• Transport residents, supplies, and equipment, as needed.
• Assist nurses and other personnel, as needed.
• Ambulate residents who require minimal assistance.
• Perform skin evaluations and notify RN of any abnormalities in skin integrity.
• Apply heat or cold compresses as directed by an RN.
• Answer residents' calls and take appropriate actions.
• Collects and labels specimens (urine, stool & sputum).
• Measures and records vital signs/weights and reports variations in vital signs to RN.
• Immediately report any changes in the client’s condition or incidents to the Nursing Supervisor.
• Notify the Charges/Staff Nurses of any resident leaving/missing from the facility.
• Participates in case conferences with other members of the healthcare team as appropriate.
• Maintains confidentiality concerning all clients, healthcare staff, and documentation (according to HIPAA).
• Maintains and enhances skill through attending appropriate staff development training, if applicable.
• Appearance is professional and complies with agency/client dress code for a healthcare setting.
• Maintains a cooperative manner towards client/family and all members of the healthcare team.
• Must comply with all DHEC, CDC, and OSHA safety policies and procedures related to healthcare.
