Description

JOB SUMMARY & MISSION:
Reporting to the General Foreman, the Foreman is responsible for providing direct supervision and leadership for a crew of Safety Attendants (holewatch/firewatch/bottlewatch) on an assigned project. The Foreman is generally responsible for a crew of up to 10 - 20 personnel, ensuring all assigned tasks are completed timely and efficiently, while ensuring the safety of all crew members, as well as compliance with all OSHA, Company and client safety policies and procedures. The Foreman will also work closely with both the General Foreman and Project Manager to plan and schedule staff in order to effectively manage the overall project, as well as ensuring proper coverage on fatigue days, etc. The Foreman may also step up to assume the General Foreman duties as needed, thereby ensuring that all Foremen under the direction of the General Foreman are following through on all assigned tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership that results in a safe work culture, is responsible and accountable for the safety of the crew under his/her direction, and must understand and accept the importance of the role.
  • Communicating to his/her crew and ensuring compliance with OSHA, Company and client safety policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates mandatory safety tool box meetings as required.
  • Ensures safety inspections are conducted daily and that all initial JSA’s (Job Safety Analyses) and hazard assessments are completed prior to job commencement.
  • Works with Project Managers, General Foremen and Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.
  • Ensures equipment checks and vehicle checks are regularly and routinely carried out.
  • Accountable for following assigned project plan(s) and schedules and ensuring that his/her crew performs daily and weekly activities as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively and regularly to direct reports all crew tasks, duties and responsibilities, including any changes.
  • Monitor and manage employee attendance, ensuring the timely arrival and participation of all crew members, and notifying employees of rain days, prior to the start of the work day/shift.
  • Promotes, supports and facilitates teamwork and harmony between all crew members by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all crew members. Recognizes, addresses and resolves issue/problems among/between crew members, and reports all such issues to the General Foreman and Project Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accurate daily time keeping and reporting for his/her crew members.
  • May participate in the recruiting/interviewing of safety attendants for an assigned project.
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with General Foreman and Project Manager on work progress, staffing issues/concerns, disciplinary issues, etc.
  • May step up and perform the duties of General Foreman in his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Directly supervises a crew of 10 – 20 personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
    The Foreman may be required to travel to conduct the Company’s business at various customer locations throughout North America.

Qualifications


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED, and a minimum of 2 years safety attendant services experience (firewatch/holewatch/bottlewatch) in the petrochemical or refining industry, preferably on turnarounds. Minimum of 6 months experience supervising a crew of employees (Safety Attendants and/or General Laborers) on a Turnaround project preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good driving record to drive company vehicle and access client facilities.
  • Safety-oriented attitude with a true commitment to personal safety, as well as the safety of others is a must.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety compliance regulations and basic safety concepts.
  • Proven ability to implement and maintain behavioral-based safety techniques, ensuring onsite safety performance.
  • Must be willing/able to don respiratory protection equipment for extended periods of time if necessary.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations, including clients and employees.
  • Computer: - Basic PC skills with particular emphasis on Microsoft Office (MSWord, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to quickly learn additional software programs as required by job responsibilities.
  • Customer Orientation: Demonstrates concern for meeting internal and external customers' needs in a manner that provides satisfaction for the customer within the resources that can be made available.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee could be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to high, precarious locations such as towers (up to 300ft.). They may be required to work in extreme cold and extreme heat and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Their work may involve risks to hazards such as: working around moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may exceed 85dB and will require the use of hearing protection.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand or walk. They will need to use their hands and fingers to handle or feel and to reach with hands and arms. They will need to use their senses to see, feel, hear, taste and smell. The employee may be required to climb ladders, scaffolds and stairs to excessive heights of up to 300ft., and/or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to carry/transport/move equipment up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess a TWIC card.
  • Current driver’s license from state of residence and proof of vehicle insurance with state liability minimum.
