Location: Syracuse, NY Category: Faculty Posted On: Mon Jul 24 2023 Job Description: The Department of Applied Engineering Technology is pleased to invite applications for a one-year temporary (emergency) faculty appointment in Construction Management/Architectural Design at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The primary need is in the area of Construction Management, although there may be additional teaching opportunities in Architectural Design, so we invite a wide range of credentials, skill sets, and backgrounds to apply. Subject to budgetary approvals, the intent is to reopen this position to a full search in 2023-2024 for a full-time, tenure-track line. Major responsibilities of this position include college-level teaching of Construction Management courses (as well as potentially Architectural Design) and laboratories. Knowledge of other construction-related fields is also valued, including, but not limited to: building systems, renewable energy systems, building performance evaluation, HVAC, and building trades. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, curriculum development, participation on committees, and collaboration with colleagues to assess student learning outcomes. Use appropriate technology to enhance learning. Assess learning outcomes and adapt curriculum to meet learning objectives. Demonstrate insight and encouragement in working with diverse student populations, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Provide appropriate academic advising to students to support timely degree completion. Be innovative in the presentation of lectures and hands-on learning activities that achieve learning outcomes. Provide timely feedback on students' assignments and exams throughout each semester. Be accountable to meet the needs of the Department and the College, including timely submission of grades and other required materials. Job Requirements: Appointment at the Rank of Instructor: Associate degree in the subject area of Construction Management and/or Architecture, or closely-allied field; Industry-recognized professional license or certification; and Minimum of five years of full-time related industry experience. Appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or closely-allied field, preferably from a NAAB accredited institution; Three years of work experience in construction/architecture; Prior experience providing training or instruction in Construction Management and/or Architecture; Active participation in professional and community organizations; Knowledge and enthusiasm about design, construction technology, sustainability and resiliency issues. OR Master's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or closely-allied field; and Three years of work experience in construction/architecture. OR Doctorate in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or closely-allied field. Preferred Qualifications: Background in teaching college level courses. Demonstrated connections with local industry. Bilingual in Spanish & English (English and another language will be considered) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project); Practical hands-on, design or technology management experience in the application of Construction Management and/or Architecture. Familiar with some or all of the following software programs: Autocad Revit Rhino, Enscape, and/or Lumion Sketchup Additional Information: The 2023-2024 starting salary for the rank of Instructor is $50,000 and Assistant Professor is $56,250.
