Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

This role is responsible for certain of Synchrony Financial’s general accounting activities, Regulation W / legal entity accounting, and retail deposits accounting. Regulation W/ legal entity accounting includes monitoring intercompany activity, ensuring Synchrony Bank is in compliance with sections 23A and 23B of Regulation W, and FR Y-8 regulatory reporting. General accounting responsibility includes intercompany accounting and securitization trusts. Retail deposits includes accounting processes for Synchrony’s retail deposits portfolio. This role will supervise a team of professionals. In this role, you will gain accounting, regulatory, reporting, project management, financial close, and senior leader interaction experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversight of general accounting functions including securitization trusts and intercompany accounting including:

  • Responsibility for maintaining a thorough understanding of the end to end business processes for these areas including transaction flows, key systems and activity sources which impact general ledger accounts.

  • Ensure process documentation is accurate and comprehensive including, but not limited to job aids, PRC, and RCSA.

  • Ensuring appropriate internal controls over financial reporting are in place and documented appropriately in eGRC and are operating effectively.

  • Oversight of accounting activities for securitization trusts including intercompany loan sales, TRL, ABS Suite activity (recoveries and gain rate), account additions, daily cash settlements, and VIE reporting pack.

  • Oversight of SYF servicing of e*Trade trusts including investor reports and annual USAP audit.

  • Ensure that all requirements of SYF accounting policies and procedures impacting these areas are met and transactions comply with applicable accounting guidance.

  • Ensuring account reconciliations are being prepared in accordance with SYF’s Account Reconciliation Procedure.

  • Lead simplification and process improvement initiatives in these areas.

Regulation W / legal entity accounting includes:

  • Maintain Regulation W procedures ensuring compliance including ensuring internal control processes affecting Regulation W are well designed, maintained, documented, and working effectively.

  • Identify affiliate and covered transactions.

  • Ensure covered transactions are appropriately collateralized.

  • 23A collateral monitoring and valuation.

  • Design financial processes that align with new or amended contracts.

  • Maintain affiliate servicing allocations between Synchrony Financial’s subsidiaries.

  • Report, track and monitor Regulation W exceptions and issues.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to prepare management and regulatory reporting of affiliate transactions (FR Y-8).

  • Communicate and interact with senior leaders of the organization Regulation W related matters.

Retail deposits accounting includes:

  • Drive accounting simplification and automation of retail deposit processes.

  • Management of retail deposit accounting including cash-in-transit, retail deposit balancing & reconciliation, FISERV suspense and issue resolution coordination, daily balancing, M/E Rec, Tax Reporting.

  • Support retail deposit projects; Support Annual ACH Audit and NACHA compliance.

  • Oversight of secured card accounting processes including balancing and reconciliations.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related Business area and 8 years of accounting/finance experience

  • In lieu of a degree, 12 years of accounting/finance experience

  • Process/quality improvement experience – develop and implement new processes, improve existing routines

Grade/Level: 12

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 - 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
