Key Responsibilities:
As part of Technical Operations, the Senior Manager -Component Engineering is responsible for providing technical leadership to a team of reliability and component engineers. Using a wide variety of United and vendor resources, these engineers analyze component failure modes, research solutions, execute authorizing documentation including maintenance program changes and monitor the performance of these improved solutions. Solutions must be implemented by a variety of aircraft component repair and overhaul shops including those within United. The Senior Manager and their team will provide cross-utilization skill support to Fleet Engineering personnel primarily in complex system and avionics components in the near-term. Over the longer term the team's experience will allow support of any component operated by United. This individual will take a leadership role in ensuring United's technical excellence around responsibility and will be called upon to represent the team in multiple settings including meetings on reliability issues, financial appropriations requests, senior management briefings and vendor management performance evaluations.
Provide supervision of on-site and remote technical support for repair development and technical disposition related to the design, operation, maintenance, performance, modification and/or repair of aircraft components to improve reliability
Approve and substantiate safe, timely and cost-effective repairs and procedures or provide similar guidance to vendor shop engineers
Interpret and implement legally mandated actions, maintenance programs, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) drawings, service bulletins and component maintenance manuals
Organize and handle the priorities for the component engineering group and orchestrate the work processes to meet all the deliverables for the projects as well as provide engineering disposition approval for technical issues
Provide coaching and development to component team members
Review relevant data, report shop findings, and initiate corrective action in support of root cause determination on in-service problems or operational issues and liaison between engineering, maintenance, vendors, and manufacturers to ensure legal compliance and economic engineering solutions
Investigate, develop & implement repair processes, procedures for assigned components as well as ad hoc requests
Efficiently use multiple sources for developing effective repair schemes for boosting component reliability within acceptable cost parameters
This position guides the development of complex designs and implementation plans, project justification, obtaining funding approval, management of project implementation, technical support, and obtaining FAA approvals as required
In addition, provide oversight of the chronic component and bad from stock programs, as part of United's FAA-accepted reliability program
Ensure engineering compliance with parts exchange programs (such as 787 "Gold Care) and support of large-scale request for proposal (RFP) efforts with supply chain and procurement by providing any necessary technical engineering support

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical) or 4 years of relevant work experience
5 years engineering experience
2 years of management experience
Knowledgeable of airworthiness, repair substantiation criteria and regulatory requirements specifically 14 CFR Part 25, 121 and 145
10% - 20% travel
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
