A flagger plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians in and around work zones. The primary responsibility is to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Traffic Control:
Safely direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic through construction or work zones.
Use hand signals, flags, or other signaling devices to communicate with drivers and equipment operators.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols for work zone operations.
Monitor the work area for potential hazards and report safety concerns to supervisors.
Communication:
Effectively communicate with construction crews, equipment operators, and other flaggers to coordinate traffic flow.
Provide clear and concise instructions to drivers and pedestrians.
Equipment Operation:
Operate and maintain traffic control equipment, such as signs, cones, and barricades.
Set up and dismantle temporary traffic control devices as needed.
Emergency Response:
Respond promptly to emergencies or unexpected situations, such as accidents or vehicle breakdowns.
Implement emergency traffic control measures when necessary.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including traffic control measures implemented and any incidents that occur.
