Description

Job Summary:

The Infection Control/Employee Health Manager establishes and coordinates organization-wide programs for the prevention, surveillance, and control of nosocomial infections, communicable diseases, and employee wellness. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Quality, this role conducts surveillance, ensures compliance with regulations and standards, investigates outbreaks, and provides education to staff. Additionally, the manager manages the employee health program, promotes a healthy work environment, and oversees work-related injury follow-up and compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct surveillance using approved methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and Joint Commission standards regarding infection control activities.
  • Investigate infection outbreaks, establish etiology, develop interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide mandated in-service education to all staff and collaborate with department managers on infection control educational programs.
  • Develop and initiate activities to monitor and evaluate the Infection Control Program for improvement opportunities.
  • Oversee communicable disease reporting processes to state, county, and local health agencies.
  • Develop and implement the Infection Control Plan and Risk Assessment.
  • Manage the employee health program, promoting a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Provide follow-up for work-related injuries, manage disability cases, and assist with the return-to-work process.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal agencies regarding employee health and safety, including maintaining the OSHA Log.
  • Provide mandated education to all employees.
  • Conduct environment of care and infection control rounds.

Qualifications


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years clinical experience as an RN.
  • Thorough knowledge of professional nursing techniques and their relation to medical and surgical practices.
  • Knowledgeable in hospital operations, including clinical divisions, supply distribution practices, and organizational operations.
  • Ability to teach therapeutic measures, secure cooperation, understand and carry out technical instructions, and demonstrate thoroughness and mental alertness.
  • Sympathetic attitude toward patients and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Licensure:

  • Valid New York State Registered Nurse Licensure (Required).
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) (Required).

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Proficiency in conducting investigations and implementing interventions.
  • Skill in providing education and training to staff.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ability to promote a culture of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention/control protocols and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Moderate lifting: 15-44 pounds.
