Foster Care Family Support Specialist - Kenwood, IL

Description

Works cooperatively with other agencies, caseworkers, and family aid specialists and family support services. Under the assigned supervisor, provides direct in-home supportive services to children and families whether in or out of the child welfare system;

provides emotional support to families in crises including communicating with the family, establishing trust, and providing motivation and hope that the situation can improve.

Qualifications

Education - Required

High school diploma or GED Required

  • Auto Insurance

  • Physical Exam / TB
  • Reliable transportation large enough to transport sibling groups also required

Job Functions

  • Provides mentoring / tutoring services
  • Ability to observe and submit accurate written documentation regarding the interaction
  • Must be responsible, organized, personable and enjoys working with children have the dedication to help them succeed in life
  • Provide feedback to youth using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in themselves
  • Organize a tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
  • Develop teaching or training materials, such as handouts, study materials, or quizzes
  • Communicates youths' progress and / or struggles to the youth, parents and the primary IPS team clinician assigned to the case in written case notes, in person, by phone, or by email
  • Has a good driving record
  • Attends and participates in monthly mentoring meeting and training sessions as required by the specific job or department
  • Submits expense vouchers, renewed driver's license, and automobile insurance coverage on the due date
  • Responsible to be reliable and flexible to the programs in terms of hours worked and submit accurate timesheets; contacts Supervisor for any change in schedule or to approve overtime hours worked

Required Skills

  • Basic computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, on schedule form
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and verbally communicate in a clear manner
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals
  • Ability to exercise discretion and ensure confidentiality
