Addiction Clinician (APP/MD)

The Addiction Clinician is responsible for providing comprehensive addiction treatment care within our Addiction Medicine clinic. The Clinician will work closely with a team of other Addiction Medicine clinicians, Medical Assistants, Program Coordinator, Peer Support Specialist and Behavioral Health Specialist. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about addiction treatment, harm reduction, and caring for vulnerable and underserved populations.

Essential Functions

  • Provide comprehensive addiction treatment to adolescents (16 and older) and adults in an outpatient setting. This will include treatment for opioid use disorder, alcohol use disorder, and stimulant use disorder.
  • Skillfully diagnose and treat substance use disorders in collaboration with interdisciplinary team
  • Develop outcomes-based treatment plans of care that address mental health, addictions, functional impairment and co-occurring medical disorders
  • Engage the patient and family to develop treatment plans that address identified goals
  • Consult with primary care providers as needed to assist with ongoing management of the behavioral health needs of their patients
  • Participate in relevant and ongoing professional training
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation necessary for patient care and billing.
  • Responsible for assuring quality medical care delivered to all patients.
  • Responsible for understanding and maintenance of Quality Improvement Program indicators as directed by the Leadership for the medical department.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the Standards of Care and policies for the Medical Clinic.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the implementation of medical clinic policies to ensure appropriate medical follow-up of patients and medical specialty referrals.
  • Understands and follows medical operations in compliance with applicable state and local laws, regulations and policies.
  • Understands and monitors systems for compliance as necessary. Provides necessary and timely communication to Medical Leadership when issues of compliance arise, and complies with a corrective strategy.
  • Understands and follows policies and procedures relative to medical provider scheduling, schedule changes, template development, etc., coordinating with efforts with the Practice Manager. Promptly communicates problems and issues in these areas to the Medical Leadership.
  • Assists other medical and general staff, in developing and designing new clinical services, as appropriate to One Community Health patient needs.
  • Responsible for attending all appropriate meetings as directed by the Medical Leadership.
  • The Addiction Clinician is responsible for quality medical services to One Community Health patients. They are responsible for compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies pertaining to medical practice, clinic operations and licensing.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in work groups, teams, task forces and committees to support ongoing clinic functions. Foster communication and coordination within the clinic and outside agencies by establishing professional working relationships with others to facilitate the delivery of services to the patient.
  • Order or direct ordering of drugs, solutions, and equipment and maintain accurate controls and records for narcotic medications. Ensure that clinic staff maintains observance of universal precautions.
  • This position is responsible for reporting suspicion of child, adult (including spouses), elder, and dependent adult abuse as outlined in Penal Code, Section 11166, Section 15630, and Section 1160.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be fully licensed to practice in the state of California, who is board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, OR Psychiatry (APP/ MD).
  • Possess and maintain a DEA certificate
  • Possess and maintain a Current CPR Certificate
  • Licenses required for this position must be kept current, valid, and in good standing with the presiding entity.
  • Valid BLS certification.

Preferred Background

  • Board certified or board eligible in Addiction Medicine
  • Experience with harm reduction
  • Interest in working with under resourced communities
  • FQHC experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
