Description

The Safety Officer is responsible for the implementation of safety policies in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations. This position is also responsible for ensuring the consistent enforcement of safety-related policies and procedures.

  • Establishes procedures for implementation of the company’s safety program
  • Works with employees and management to provide training, development, and dissemination of Company safety policies and procedures
  • Inspects worksites to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Works with subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with company safety practices
  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions in the workplace.
  • Assists in the investigation of workplace accidents and injuries and cooperates with the Risk Manager in the preparation of material and evidence for use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Assists with the worker’s compensation program
  • Administers the drug-free workplace program
  • Inspects safety equipment on a regular basis (AEDs, fire extinguishers, etc.)
  • Conducts surprise fire drills on a quarterly basis
  • May represent the organization in safety groups and programs
  • Assists in disaster preparedness as required
  • Assists in the Company’s wellness initiatives (Health Fair, wellness newsletters, etc.)
  • Maintains confidentiality of HR information
  • Performs all duties in adherence to OTOW standards
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co-workers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5 years of experience in the field of General Industrial Safety preferred
  • OHSA Outreach Trainer certifications preferred

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be able to read, write and understand English and have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with an ability to become familiar with company-specific programs and software
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Broad knowledge of OSHA and federal safety regulations
  • Project management skills
