The Parkway Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for making major and minor mechanical repairs on a variety of gasoline and diesel powered equipment, including keeping all equipment in efficient, operable condition at all times, as well as organizing and maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, adjusts, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects in the many types of lawn maintenance equipment and vehicles as required
  • Performs general overhaul of motors, including but not limited to, repairing transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, and high-pressure pumps and valves
  • Installs and adjusts brakes, batteries, tires, wiring, and glass
  • Replaces and adjusts headlights and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers
  • Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings
  • Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks
  • Rewires ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels
  • Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front ends, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiators
  • Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicles
  • May be responsible for removing and repairing units such as engines, transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, oil changes, and high-pressure pumps and valves
  • May be responsible for repairing or replacing parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings
  • May occasionally perform painting or body repair work
  • Maintains records of preventative maintenance, repairs made, orders, and time worked
  • Keeps maintenance building neat with parts put up when not in use
  • Trains new crew members in the proper procedures of greasing and fueling equipment
  • Maintains inventory, orders parts, and reorders stock items
  • Assists in the transportation of broken equipment
  • Ensures proper use Personnel Protective Equipment and stays focused and engaged
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 3 years of related experience required

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be able to read, write and understand English and follow written and oral instructions
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, and record keeping
  • Strong organizational skills

Certifications and Licenses
