Pharmacist-In-Charge 

Division/Department: Operations

Reports to: Regional Director of Operations

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the overall safety and security of the facility and its operations; maintains accountability for general supervision of the pharmacy staff; provides direct supervision of the processes involved in dispensing and preparing medicines; ensures compliance with FDA mandates and self-imposed manufacturer restrictions on particular drugs, as applicable; enforces all federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to drug dispensing and patient privacy, as well as company policies and procedures

Required Knowledge & Skills:

Prescription Order Review & Clarification:

  • Prior to the dispensing of a medication:
  • Verifies source of prescription.
  • Contacts Physician’s offices for clarification or questions on any orders or prescriptions written by the Physician.
  • Provides Clinical advice to Physicians regarding medication treatments.
  • Obtains any and all information necessary from Physician to ensure accurate and safe dispensing of medications to the patient.
  • Resolves prescription discrepancies.

Prescription Dispensing:

  • Takes prescription orders over the telephone from Physicians or their agents.
  • Verifies correct drug is being dispensed and the drug matches the prescription order.
  • Verifies correct patient for dispensing.
  • Verifies correct route of administration.
  • Verifies correct drug dosage and strength.
  • Verifies correct administration schedule or time (directions).
  • Includes appropriate manufacturer or other patient education materials with dispensed drug(s).
  • Obtains insurance authorizations as required.
  • Investigates and manages insurance denials as required.
  • Completes quality control and DUR check on prescriptions, ensuring all policies, procedures and laws are adhered to;
  • Provides patient-specific consultation on all aspects of their medication regimen.
  • Maintains appropriate records and computer entry of prescriptions and patient information.
  • Documents patient interventions with adequate detail in both clinical and non-clinical records as appropriate.
  • Reports adverse events to the appropriate collector, such as MedWatch or a manufacturer, in a timely manner.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Assumes financial responsibility for store. Manages P&L/financials including expense control.
  • Assesses revenue and expenditures of store, manage utilization of resources, and work within budget constraints.
  • Manages subordinate employees, including: Staff pharmacists, Technicians, and Clerks
  • Interviews potential candidates for open subordinate positions.
  • Trains new employees in their designated roles to perform to meet the expectations of the company.
  • Appraises subordinates’ performance through a formal review process on an annual basis as designated by Human Resources.
  • Corrects behaviors and disciplines employees as necessary.
  • Addresses complaints and resolves issues.

Clinical Oversight:

  • Participates as a member of the Clinical Oversight Body.
  • Contributes to the development and annual review of the patient management program.
  • Supervises and delivers patient management program services.
  • Participates in the Quality Management Committees.

Oversight of Pharmacy Safely:

  • Responsible for the overall safety and security of the facility and its operations.

  • Enforces all federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to drug dispensing and patient privacy, as well as company policies and procedures.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Regional Sales Manager by participating in business development activities.
  • Develop and conduct in-service presentations for referral sources.
  • Remains dependable and maintains levels of confidentiality.
  • Ensures that patient rights are upheld and supports informed decision making by the patient.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with prescribers.
  • Possesses the ability to recognize the needs of and express concern for others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pharm.D. or BS Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Successful completion of state pharmacy board examination.
  • Pharmacist license current and in good standing in the State of CA.
  • Maintains continuing education (CE) requirements (as part of pharmacist license maintenance).
  • Two to three years’ experience in the practice of pharmacy; one to two years’ experience in pharmacy management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates proficiencies in specialty disease state management and interventions, such as: - Transplant - Hepatitis C - HIV - Autoimmune - Oncology - Pain Management.
  • Comprehends federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Familiar with workflow concepts relating to the practice of retail pharmacy.
  • Shows full understanding of controlled substance rules and regulations as dictated by the Drug Enforcement Agency, as well as state and local laws and regulations.
  • Detailed understanding of REMS programs relevant to specialty pharmaceutical products.
  • Understands the limited distribution process for specialty pharmaceutical products.
  • Has sufficient knowledge, training and expertise in pharmacotherapeutics to oversee the pharmacy patient management program.
  • Possesses professionalism, leadership skills and abilities.
  • Time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize, to delegate, in a friendly caring demeanor.
  • Communication skills, both oral and written

Work Conditions:

  • The pharmacy location: Hill Country Rx 1201 industrial st ste 101 Redding ca 96002. Operation hours: M to F, Day Shift.
  • This position operates in a health care setting and requires frequent standing and walking to storage shelves and filling counters to fill prescriptions.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The ability to see distinctions in colors and shapes is also required.
  • This position is moderately active and requires standing and walking for the duration of the shift, and lifting to 25 lbs.
  • This position requires the ability to always handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner.

Compensation will vary based on region. For the state of California only, expected pay is $126,690 - $160,474. Benefits can be found on www.omnicellbenefits.com.
