General Notes

This position is expected to work on Campus.

Purpose

Day-to-day management of the accounting unit within the Business Services Office.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the accounting unit within the Business Services Office in the performance of assignments to provide accounting, reconciliation, payment processing support, and financial reporting.

  • Manage the planning, coordinating, setting priorities, and directing of the unit to include all voucher processing, reporting and travel functions. Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans and goals.

  • Performs related duties as assigned Responsible for the recording, analysis, and reporting of financial data including: review and approval of vouchers and transactions; monitor account balances, expenditures, and encumbrances to ensure integrity and reliability and adherence with University policies and procedures; confirm financial status by processing monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations of numerous departmental and school-wide accounts.

  • Responsible for the preparation of financial reports including monthly summary reports, unit budget to actual reports, account monitoring reports, annual financial reports, and other miscellaneous reports. Assist in maintaining project budgets for programs and/or faculty, including start-up and research allocations.Produce regular reports of spending and remaining balances.

  • Prepares recommendations and documentation to create and update business services. Interprets and ensures compliance with federal, state, grant awards, and University policy.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least eight years experience in a mid-level administrative position or at least two years in a supervisory executive assistant position with progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting.Experience in transaction processing, planning, reporting, and financial analysis. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities and objectives. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word programs. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with constant deadlines and ability to manage long term projects. Experience interpreting policy and implementing procedures. Ability to problem solve and research financial inquiries. Excellent written and oral communication. Professional demeanor, and excellent customer service skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving. Demonstrated time management, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Ability to be discreet with confidential matters and to use sound judgment to facilitate independent decisions.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required education and experience. Familiarity with State or UT Austin vouchering and accounting policies and procedures. Experience using electronic accounting and work management systems to process web-based documents. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work both independently and as a team member without day-to-day supervision; ability to work under pressure, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail; proficiency in gathering, analyzing, presenting financial data and making recommendations. Supervisory experience. Familiarity with federal grant management.

Salary Range

$75,000 depending on qualifications
