POSITION SUMMARY:

The Estimator is responsible for evaluating commercial glass project specifications and drawings, following up with subcontractors to ensure bids are received, complete and competitive, and also work with Project Managers to follow-up on bids and budgets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews specification information and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Computes cost factors, including labor and prepares estimates for management purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or sub-contractors and determining cost effectiveness.
  • Performs takeoffs on blueprints (i.e., scaling drawings, counting windows, entrances and/or panels, etc.)
  • Attend pre-bid walk- thru's and contractor meetings.
  • Consults with owners, contractors, vendors, foreman/superintendents, and project managers to develop and communicate estimates.
  • Discusses changes and adjustments to cost estimates with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Make follow-up calls to clients/contractors to develop and maintain good business relationships.
  • Communicate project details/strategy to Project Managers and jobsite foremen.
  • Promotes organization in industry, manufacturing or trade associations.
  • Ensures a safe working environment and full compliance with all Omni, OSHA, State and Local standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 1-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience - Required
  • Ability to read and comprehend architectural blueprints, drawings and specifications - Required
  • Basic math and algebra skills, along with ability to understand ruler measurements- Required
  • Proficient in the use of PC and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook and Word) - Required
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including verbal, written, e-mail and telephone communication - Required
  • Ability to work independently and/or within a team - Preferred
  • Advanced time management and organizational skill and be able to prioritize and multi-task - Preferred
  • Quality Conscious with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to details - Preferred
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills - Preferred
  • Ability to work extra hours as projects and workloads require - Preferred
