Olympic Club is Hiring a Staff Tennis Professional Near San Francisco, CA

The Olympic Club, a private member athletic and country club in San Francisco, seeks a full-time Tennis Professional. At The Olympic Club, our members enjoy 2 campuses, 19 sports, world-renowned golf courses, exceptional social and athletic programs as well as 18 hotel rooms and 5 Food & Beverage outlets. Our City Clubhouse is located one block from Union Square and within easy walking distance of the Powell Street BART station. Our Lakeside Clubhouse sits next to the ocean on the border of San Francisco and Daly City.

The Olympic Club offers employees free golf on Mondays at our Lakeside campus and a variety of sports and social events for employees throughout the year as well as lunch and dinner provided every day.


Position Overview:

The Tennis Professional will assist the Director of Tennis to oversee, manage and direct all activities for the Tennis Department, the Tennis Clubhouse & Pro Shop, 8 tennis courts and adjacent grounds. This is a full-time, salaried position, which includes medical, dental benefits, as well as a 401k with a Club match. At times, and as instructed by the Director, Tennis professional may be called upon to act as the Club Management liaison to the Club Membership Tennis Committee and the Club’s Tennis Section Members. The Tennis Professional will teach, train and coach private, semi-private and group lessons as directed by the Director of Tennis. The Tennis Professional will have a lead role in the success of the Junior Tennis Program and will be instrumental in growing and promoting Junior Tennis at The Olympic Club. Additionally, as instructed by the Director of Tennis, the Tennis Professional will assist the Director of Tennis in creating, cultivating, promoting and administering any of the other aspects of The Club’s tennis programs, including camps, clinics, activities, tournaments, leagues and other events. The position of Tennis Professional will split his/her time between doing office and administrative duties and working “on the court”. Approximately 40% of the time will be devoted to managing and administrative tasks, with approximately 60% devoted to court time. Additionally, Tennis Professional is at all times expected to foster The Olympic Club’s reputation as the premier tennis club and a recognized leader in the tennis community.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • The Tennis Professional will assist the Director of Tennis to oversee and manage the Tennis operation including all events, tournaments, leagues and tennis related activities. He/she will assist the Director of Tennis to ensure that all aspects of the Tennis operation meet or exceed the Club’s standards and expectations as it relates to service, professionalism, facility condition, amenities and value. The Tennis Professional will take the overall responsibility (under the supervision of the Director) for the success of The Club’s Junior Tennis Program. This position will organize, manage and execute team events, tournaments camps and other tennis programs
  • As noted above, the Tennis Professional will devote approximately 40% of his/her time to assisting the Director with management/office/administrative duties necessary to insure operational and organizational success. Additionally, Tennis Professional will work under the direction of the Director of Tennis to ensure facilities, grounds, tennis courts and all equipment are clean, pristine and in working condition and meet the standards and expectations of the Club’s Membership. He/she will work with Management, Engineering, Housekeeping, and Golf Course Maintenance, and outside vendors to resolve any facilities, courts or equipment issues
  • The Tennis Professional will assist the Director of Tennis to organize, develop, create marketing plans and run tennis events, tournaments, USTA League events, camps and clinics as needed. As stated earlier, the Tennis Professional will take a leadership role in Junior Tennis programs. He/she will also be expected to work with other departmental managers to create tennis events
  • The Tennis Professional will assist the Director of Tennis to manage the sales, merchandising, inventory and display in the Tennis Pro Shop. He/she will also assist as needed to hire, train, develop, mentor and supervise all Tennis Department staff including other Tennis Professionals, hourly Pro Shop staff and 1 Housekeeping Porter
  • At the request of the Director of Tennis, the Tennis Professional will draft articles and other media pieces for the Club’s website and Olympian magazine or update the website regularly to ensure Club Members are up to date with all tennis related events and activities. The Tennis Professional will also update the Olympic Club Facebook page with photos and posts following events and matches
  • Attend all meetings, events, tournaments, etc. as required or requested by The Director of Tennis or management including but not limited to management meetings, committee meetings, outside tournaments or events, trainings, etc.
  • It will be necessary for this position to become fluent in club POS software to assist with billing and recognition of member classifications
  • The Club will expect the Tennis Professional to maintain professional certifications and accreditation, and stay up-to-date with the latest trends in the industry
  • Because no job description can be all inclusive or anticipate completely changing business needs, the Tennis Professional will also be expected to assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager or other management of The Club.


Non-Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Attend management meetings and other meetings as requested by the Director of Tennis


Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalency required
  • Minimum of 3 years prior experience in a Head Professional or equivalent role
  • USPTA Certified – Master Professional or Elite Professional preferred. Must have playing ability of 5.0 or above
