Summary/Objective The Custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe and well-kept.

Essential Functions 

• Monitors and maintains a high level of cleanliness in all assigned areas
• Perform routine cleaning by dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, conference rooms and other common areas
• Empty trash receptacles and replace liners
• Restock kitchen and cafeteria supplies as needed
• Maintain inventory of cleaning and kitchen supplies, and notify supervisor when supplies need to be replenished
• Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials
• Communicate effectively between various departments within the plant, and with visiting building or equipment repair contractors.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Temperature is varied to the temperature outside due to open doors and garages.

Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items 50 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position uses various cleaning products and the employee must be able to work with these products; PPE will be provided as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position during the first shift of the workday, normally Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.

TravelNo travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or Equivalent GED preferred
• Minimum of 1 year cleaning or custodial experience 
• Great attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
