OLV Human Services is Hiring a Special Education Teacher Birth - 2 (Early Ed Pre K) Near Lackawanna, NY

Job Summary:
Plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities.
Essential job duties:
  1. Creates an educational climate that promotes success, independence, a productive atmosphere, and provides students with encouragement, safety and stimulation.
  2. Completes weekly lesson plans based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum which follows the New York State Education Department Learning Standards.
  3. Creates an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) for all students.
  4. Prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students based upon their IEP.
  5. Demonstrate adequate knowledge of: subject matter, ability to think critically, and individualized instruction.
  6. Create, implement and share effective behavior management techniques or plans.
  7. Act as team leader of classroom staff including assistants, therapists, and social workers.
  8. Conduct regular community meetings (Sanctuary based) and team meetings.
  9. Communicate effectively with parents (through notebooks, phone calls, conferences, district meetings, etc.).
  10. Complete log notes based on student goals as per the IEP (progress and/or regression).
  11. Complete Quarterly Progress Reports on all students that are distributed to parents and the school districts.
  12. Complete Annual Review Reports/Amendments/Regression Statements for school districts (including writing appropriate observable and measurable child centered goals).
  13. Participate in and share appropriate information at CPSE/CSE meetings with school districts.
  14. Mentor and train new teachers as requested by supervisor
  15. Maintain client confidentiality within HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines.

Education:
Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Education

Experience :
Minimum Experience: 1 year minimum
Required License/Registration/ Certification: NYS Initial Certification in Special Education within six monts of start date

Physical Requirements:
The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions
  • The constant physical demand of the position is sitting.
  • The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • The occasional physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling
