Production Manager

Position Description

Olson Fabrication, Inc., a leading Fabrication and Machining company in a Northeastern Wisconsin, is searching for a Production Manager to join our team.

Job Description:

The Production Manager is responsible for the performance and administration of the Company’s manufacturing operations. This includes the management and direction of all production personnel and processes including maintenance, production control, quality control, safety, ISO documentation and shipping and receiving.

The Production Manager will work with internal teammates across numerous departments to maintain customer satisfaction of assigned work orders. This position requires a hands-on team player with excellent communication skills, providing a conduit of communication between the shop floor and office and building relationships with corresponding vendor staff and contributes to a positive teamwork environment.

Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Experience in metal fabrication and machined parts.
  • Ability to read customer prints from a variety of industries.
  • Formulates and implements manufacturing policies and programs which guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Directs activities so that products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives. Monitor production schedule. Report and update to management team on status of production schedule. Manage human and material resources to meet production targets.
  • Set and manage yearly production budget. Ensures standards for product quality, equipment, and employee performance are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize production. Manages fixed assets utilization and initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to plant facilities.
  • Monitors, analyzes and reports on operating costs. Alerts management to potential cost/labor over runs and recommends and implements solutions to the underlying cause.
  • Manages production budgets and controls expenses effectively. Implements cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries. Controls and minimizes labor overtime and repair expenses.
  • Trains, develops, and coaches all employees of the department. Provides management leadership in hiring, firing and disciplinary recommendations. Monitors and reviews the performance of employees. Initiates corrective disciplinary action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Company’s ISO program. Participate in setting and monitoring of quality objectives. Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives. Coach and motivate production employees to contribute and be actively involved in continuous improvement of quality and work processes. Support Quality Dept when needed to maintain set quality and on-time delivery objectives.
  • Implement and manage preventative maintenance programs including scheduling of outsourced maintenance needs for in-house production equipment.
  • Implement and manage standardized work practices.
  • Maintain safety throughout the plant. Manage schedule for safety training.
  • Promote shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among all employees.
  • Take responsibility for the care and use of all company-owned equipment which is part of the day-to-day work function.
  • Responsible for ordering consumables, tools, welding items and various other items needed for production staff.
  • Identify training needs and participate in company training programs as required. Keep current in industry and field by reading published information and attending authorized external conferences and/or seminars.
  • Perform any special assignments or projects as requested by management.
  • Multitask to manage several projects.
  • Focus on continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

Five years plant or general management experience in a job shop or steel fabrication and machining environment is desired. Technical knowledge of the industry to effectively answer questions and guide employees in all facets of the production process.

Other Skills and Qualifications:

Positive and professional attitude, reliable, self-motivated with continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly with internal departments. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office tools, blueprint reading and manufacturing processes. Understanding of ISO standards is desired.
