Olin Chemicals is Hiring a Power System Protective Relay Engineer Near Freeport, TX

Join our winning team as aPower System Protective Relaying Engineer. This role will be located at the Freeport, TX manufacturinglocation.

In your role as a Power System Protective Relay Engineer, you will support the Gulf Coast Operations in TX, LA, and other Olin locations as needed. This position will be responsible for protective relay system design, coordination, setting, programming, and troubleshooting. This role requires an expert in coordination and setting of electro-mechanical, digital, and microprocessor relays.


Power System Protective Relaying Engineer Essential Job Functions:

  • Have a strong understanding of power system protection principles, relay protection & control schemes, and relay coordination techniques for Transmission, distribution, Generation, Motor Protection and Motor Bus transfer system.
  • Application of commonly deployed protective relays in Industrial and Power Generation environments (microprocessor, electronic, and electromechanical).
  • Developone-andthree-line diagrams,interconnectandwiringdiagrams,DCschematics,andcontrollogicfor Low, medium,andhigh voltagesubstations.
  • Develop protective relay settings for new facility and modify existing facility protective relay settings to maintain optimum system protection.
  • Implementation of SCADA system & communications interface usinga varietyof communicationprotocolsandnetworktopologies.
  • Develop and Supervise system testing and commissioning plans to validate the functionality and performance of protection schemes.
  • Investigate protective relaying and control issues/events. Analyze system post-fault data from Relay and lead the investigation of electrical events to provide system restoration and recommendations.
  • Develop Electrical Models to Perform Power system studies including Short Circuit, Load Flow, Motor starting, System coordination and apply these studies to design or evaluate protective relay settings and Coordination.
Power System Protective Relaying Engineer Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree*; Electrical Engineering discipline preferred
  • 5 years protective relay coordination, programming, and setting background with advanced knowledge of symmetrical components, and protective relay coordination modeling programs
  • Related experience in operations, maintenance, or design, of Low/Medium and High voltage power systems preferred
  • Experience with electro-mechanical, microprocessor-based relaying and metering, power system analysis of events, and system restoration
  • Working knowledge of SEL acSELerator Quickset, GE Multilin Ener vista Relay programming software
  • Experience in performing Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, motor starting), and dynamic Power system studies using ETAP/Easy Power
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
