Job Summary:

We’re looking for someone to apply advanced data analytics and machine learning to complex health data and assist in the deployment of data science products to drive positive impacts across the organization. As a Data Scientist at The Innovation Foundation, you will play a critical role in experimental design, data aggregation, and data analysis supporting One Health initiatives in applied research and a state-of-the-art biorepository and -omics laboratory.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, and predictive analytics.
  • Experience with NGS data analysis and familiarity with Illumina platforms.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R or Julia, including data manipulation libraries like pandas or dplyr.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, and experimental design.
  • Proficiency with data mining, data manipulation mathematics, and statistical analysis
  • Proficiency with advanced machine learning techniques and algorithms
  • Proficiency with database systems and querying languages such as SQL for data retrieval and manipulation
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Matplotlib, Seaborn or Power BI
  • Understanding of precision medicine concepts and applications of machine learning in key diagnostic and therapeutic areas.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or publications in peer-reviewed journals related to data science or medicine.
  • Strong personal values
  • Desire to work within a dynamic team and start-up culture
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced dynamic environment that has many concurrent projects and objectives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • M.S. degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computational biology, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience (5 years) in computational biology, with a focus on problem definition, exploratory data analysis, and hypothesis testing
  • Advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling
  • Two or more years of project management experience
