Oklahoma Arthritis Center is Hiring a Radiology Technologist / Medical Assistant Near Enid, OK

Job Summary:

Operates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs of the body to assist the providers with diagnosing and/or treatment of disease and/or injury. This position will also be responsible for nursing care under the supervision of physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures maintenance of radiology equipment. Assists in the implementation of quality assurance procedures. Ensures adequate safety and compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Recommends ways to promote continuous quality improvement and customer service.
  • Responsible for obtaining and maintaining applicable Radiological Accreditation.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable Radiological Accreditation requirements.
  • Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards.
  • Performs X-rays, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, and Dual energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) studies following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves positioning patients for specific body parts and setting up and operating radiographic equipment.
  • Ensures and implements infection control procedures for the work area.
  • Checks radiological study for clarity of image, retaking when needed. Distributes images to appropriate medical staff.
  • Maintains required records including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports.
  • Obtain prior medical records, reports and/or radiological studies for comparisons.
  • Perform quantity and quality control checks to assure all radiological equipment meet standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Complies with safety standards.
  • Attend scheduled Quality Assurance meetings for IAC accreditation.
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining need for equipment repairs.
  • Maintains radiographic supplies, and orders as necessary.
  • Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Obtain, verify and record health history of patients.
  • Gather pertinent health data through physical assessments.
  • Room patients.
  • Provide basic patient care as ordered by providers. Administer medications, which may include subcutaneous or intramuscular injections, and treatments as directed by physicians or physician assistants.
  • Assist providers in performing exams, procedures and treatments.
  • Accurately and completely document assessments, interventions, patient/family responses, medications dispensed/prescribed and test results in medical record.
  • Observe patients and report adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
  • Educate and instruct patients about self-administered medications.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
  • Promote a professional image by adhering to the established dress code as listed in Employee Handbook.
  • Check and resolve assigned tasks in EMR program.
  • Assist co-workers as needed.
  • Recognize when others are in need of assistance, information or directions and offers to help when able, or find someone who can.
  • Responsible for neatness of work area to include stocking and cleaning. Be productive when faced with any “down time” during work hours.
  • Maintain emotional control and diplomacy at all times.
  • Maintain open and positive lines of communication.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate sensible and efficient use of equipment and supplies by limiting waste, spoilage or damage.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of radiological procedures, protocols, techniques, standards and applications.
  • Knowledge of X-ray, MRI and DXA procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform radiological testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.

Skills:

  • Skill in positioning patients properly.
  • Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying Administration.
  • Skill in following infection control and radiological safety procedures.
  • Skill in MRI highly preferred.

Abilities:

  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, problem solve, make decisions and use discretion.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately, both orally and written.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with health care team.
  • Ability to lift and position patients for the required type of radiological procedure.
  • Ability to transport patients within clinic who may require the use of canes, walkers, wheelchairs, or oxygen tanks.
  • Ability to apply written and/or oral instructions, and standardized work practices.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in radiological technology from an accredited radiological technician program preferred.
  • A combination of one to two years of directly related training and/or experience is typically required for this position, preferably in a medical practice environment.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment.
  • Physical ability to sit, perform data entry and view computer screen for long periods at a time.
  • Daily standing, walking, bending, and maneuvering.
  • May require lifting up to 50 pounds or more to transfer and/or turn patient with and without assistive devices.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

Travel Requirements:

Travel may be required.

Scheduled Working Hours:

Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays. Hours may vary depending upon the needs of the position, department, and clinic.
