Certified and Master Equipment Technician: :Maintains and repairs automotive and mechanical equipment.• Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles, heavy equipment, tools and equipment, and mechanical systems and components.• Reads and interprets shop manuals, diagrams and sketches.• Operates hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered tools and equipment.• Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of equipment, tools and vehicles. • Performs records maintenance duties.• Reports any detected deterioration, repair and maintenance needs to supervisor. • Assists with planning, scheduling and coordination of tasks.• Performs related duties as required.Certified Equipment Technician:Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years of automotive or heavy equipment mechanical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires ASE certification in any Automotive, Medium Heavy Truck, or Transit Bus category. An approved Automotive Refrigerant/Recovery/Recycling certification is required within 30 days of hire. Requires a valid Class “B” commercial driver license (“CDL”) with “X” endorsement or a Class “B” CDL with air brakes and “P” endorsements, depending on assignment, within twelve (12) months of hire. May require a Class “A” CDL, depending on assignment. Requires a valid driver license.Master Equipment Technician: Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of automotive or heavy equipment mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification or ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certification. Requires an approved automotive Refrigerant/Recovery/Recycling certification or must obtain within 30 days of hire. Requires a valid driver license. Requires a valid, Class “B” commercial driver license with a “X” endorsement or must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire. May require Class “A” CDL, dependent upon departmental assignment.Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate specialized automotive repair and painting equipment and tools. Must be able exert over 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; must be able to perform manual tasks and walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Language Ability: Requires ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures, and to receive and follow oral and written instructions.Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, use decimals and determine percentages, and compute ratio and proportion. Interpersonal Temperament: Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision. Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers. Must be able to perform and under stress when confronted with emergencies and tight deadlines.
