Ojai Valley School is Hiring a Long-Term Substitute Teacher - Elementary Near Ojai, CA

Ojai Valley School is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 boarding and day school located on two campuses in Ojai, California. The Lower Campus serves students in grades PK-8 and the Upper Campus serves students in grades 9-12.

Summary of Position

Ojai Valley School, Lower Campus is looking for a well-qualified candidate to serve as a Long-Term Substitute - Elementary Teacher. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher, under the supervision of the Assistant Head of Lower Campus, is responsible to ensure the continued excellence of an Ojai Valley School experience in the absence of a faculty member. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide supervision at all times to ensure the safety of children.
  • Assist children with a variety of tasks and projects.
  • Follow the plans and the structure of the school day.
  • Supervise children during lunchtime and/or on the playground.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred. A combination of education and professional experience with children is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to management, and parents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate grades and possess basic skills to work with budgets.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • California driver's license preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • California Teaching Credential preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to use training and experience to teach children of all ages.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control.
  • Good character, integrity and adaptability
  • Ability to supervise children of all ages.
  • Ability to relate to one’s peers.
