Oil States Energy Services is Hiring a Solid Works Designer II Near Houston, TX

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for preparing Solidworks assembly drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for fabrication, Pressure Control, Hydraulic / Pneumatic Drivetrain and Automation products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Abide by all Safety and Operational Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare routine drawing projects of equipment in an efficient and timely manner, following established technical specifications to prepare drawings.
  • Create bills of material for assemblies in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Provide general information to OSES assembly and vendors regarding various products.
  • Maintain R&D department documentation.
  • Create 3D models, 2D drawing packages, and BOMs using Solidworks
  • Conceptualize 3D designs based on ref. drawings, sketches, and white board drawings.
  • Create presentations in PowerPoint, MS Word, or Solidworks for customer review.
  • Reverse engineer existing Oil States’ products and generate 3D models and 2D drawings packages
  • Check designs/drawings done by other team members
  • Interact with vendors in person, by phone, email, Teams to understand products, specifications and services
  • Provides technical assistance to OSES assembly and vendors on parts, products and assembles
  • May perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram.
  • Must possess basic computer skills utilizing various programs in the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as computer aided drafting software Solid Works/AutoCAD.
  • Must be able to travel domestically up to 20% of the time.
  • Ability to create engineering print/2D drawings per ANSI/ASME Y14.5.
  • Understanding of material selection and fabrication processes.
  • Understanding of electrical or electronic part selection.
  • Understanding of Hydraulic part selection.
  • Understanding of Drive Train part selection.
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) software.
  • Must have experience creating complex assemblies and drawings including sheet metal parts, weldments, and BOMs using Solidworks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how models work and how to create model configurations, piece part drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of material.
  • Basic knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, drafting technology, and computer graphics.
  • Experience performing finite Element Analysis (FEA) using SolidWorks Simulation
  • Experience designing mechanical assemblies (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of general machining and fabrication practices.
  • Working knowledge of standard materials for machining and fabrication.
  • Working knowledge hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Working knowledge of powertrain systems
  • Must be familiar with and able to use standard measuring tools – tape measure, calipers, protractors, angle finders, etc.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • AA in CADD, Mechanical Technology or related course work preferred.
  • Five (5) years minimum experience in 2D/3D CAD drafting using Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other drafting software, preferably in the manufacturing or oilfield industry.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSES

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Certification in Solidworks or comparable 3D software preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
