Department Overview
This position is expected to develop, enhance, implement, and provide direction for their clinical pharmacy service and initiatives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, employee supervision, education and training of staff, residents, interns and students, provide leadership and service line development, involvement in quality assessment and process improvement, and serve as a clinical role model (~60%). In addition, they will staff their service area in order to maintain their clinical expertise (~40%).
Function/Duties of Position
* Responsible to provide all clinical duties as outlined in the clinical pharmacist position description.
* Supervision of Staff:
* Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and supervises assigned staff, develops performance standards, conducts performance appraisals (PE); and recommends salary increases consistent with Hospital policy and procedures.
* Program Design & Development:
* Development of programs, strategies, facilities and systems for service improvement or expansion in inpatient clinical services.
* Develop and monitor clinical dashboards and quality metrics related to the departmental goals and their specific clinical pharmacy services.
* Participate in the development and implementation of the Department of Pharmacy's strategic plan in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
* Develop policies and procedures and treatment guidelines encompassing clinical pharmacy services as necessary.
* Participate in order set development and updates and Epic functionality and Epic functionality as needed for enhanced clinical care.
* Process Improvement:
* Develops new and improved services within University Hospital through constant evaluation and innovation to enhance clinical pharmacy services.
* Establish best practices in their clinical service area to improve patient care outcomes.
* Identify and resolve unsafe conditions, inefficient work processes, or opportunities for value analysis.
* Assist in managing drug shortages and high cost medications by providing clinical expertise related to utilization, alternative therapies, and impact on service.
* Departmental Interdisciplinary Coordination:
* Coordinates services in assigned areas with other Pharmacy areas, nursing areas, other Hospital departments, and external agencies to facilitate continuity of care.
* Teaching:
* Coordinates the education and training of pharmacy students and residents as applicable.
* Direct the work of students/residents and monitors and evaluates their performance.
* This position is expected to participate in lecturing, teaching, and research related to their service line.
Required Qualifications
* BS or PharmD in Pharmacy
* Two years or more of hospital pharmacy leadership experience or residency training
* Proficiency in an area of clinical pharmacy practice
* Communication, written, and verbal
* Contemporary Practice of Pharmacy
* Licensure in the State of Oregon
Preferred Qualifications
* PGY-2 in specialty area and previous experience in specialty area
* Publications in peer reviewed journals or presentations at state or national pharmacy conference.
* 2 years of precepting and lecturing experience or ACPE accredited teaching certificate
* Certification or Fellowship in specialty area, if available
