Community Asphalt, founded in 1980 as an asphalt paving contractor, based in Miami, Florida, and part of OHLA USA since 2006, has since become specialized in general road construction and transportation infrastructure. From its four operation and plant facilities in Miami-Dade, Fort Myers, Vero Beach and West Palm Beach, the company boasts extensive geographic coverage throughout South Florida, focusing on all aspects of transportation infrastructure development, primarily for state and local authorities. Community Asphalt continues to provide traditional paving services which include grading and paving, pavement milling, surveying, excavation, on and off-road hauling, drainage, utilities, base finishing, and highway sweeping. The company also provides engineering, contracting, design and build and finance and more complex PPP contracts services. These projects include parking lots, industrial and retail complexes, road and highway construction, and airport runways.

As a Paving Foreman, your primary responsibilities will encompass a broad range of tasks aimed at ensuring the safety, efficiency, and quality of our paving projects. You will play a crucial role in leading our teams, managing resources, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Management: Oversee the safety of all crew members and the public near work sites, implementing preventive measures to avoid accidents.
  • Crew Training and Management: Conduct onboarding and continuous training for new and existing crew members, enhancing their skills and ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
  • Daily Planning and Goal Setting: Collaborate with supervisors to outline daily objectives, communicate these goals to the crew, and ensure their successful achievement.
  • Resource Allocation: Assign tasks to team members based on their strengths and project needs, effectively managing personnel to optimize productivity.
  • Logistics Coordination: Calculate the required number of trucks for asphalt haulage, considering factors like vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, and distance to ensure timely material delivery.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of time and materials for job costing and compliance with company policy.
  • Performance Management: Address employee concerns, administer disciplinary actions, and recommend personnel changes, including promotions and terminations, to maintain a high-performance team.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend strategies to enhance production methods, equipment efficiency, and overall crew performance.
  • Site Supervision: Regularly visit project sites to monitor progress, ensure proper resource utilization, and verify compliance with contractual standards.
  • Quality Control: Conduct inspections and quality control assessments to uphold high-quality standards.
  • Workforce Coordination: Manage crew schedules, adjust pay rates, and document work hours to ensure fair compensation and productivity.
  • Team Leadership: Direct and mentor crew members, ensuring effective teamwork and skill development.
  • Material and Equipment Management: Forecast and request the necessary manpower, materials, and supplies needed for projects.
  • Technical Interpretation: Accurately read and understand project plans and specifications to guide team actions and decisions.
  • Project Coordination: Lead operations at construction sites, ensuring seamless execution and coordination of activities.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Possession of a high school diploma or a GED. Additionally, candidates should bring a minimum of 3 years of experience in asphalt paving operations or an equivalent mix of education and hands-on training.
  • Mathematical Proficiency: Competent in performing basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. This includes working with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as well as calculating rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpreting bar graphs.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated ability to operate paving equipment safely and efficiently. Candidates must also be proficient in maintaining accurate records of time and materials used on projects.
  • Communication Skills: Strong capability to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions. Effective communication skills are essential for drafting simple documents, understanding correspondence, and creating memos.
  • Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and supervisory skills are required. Candidates must be adept at leading teams, managing tasks, and fostering a positive work environment through excellent leadership attributes.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision at 20 inches or less, distance vision at 20 feet or more, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Move throughout a construction jobsite which includes minor obstacles including climbing ladders and inclines, operating heavy equipment, and lifting over 50 pounds. Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
