Ohio Department of Education is Hiring a School Counselor K-8 Near Warren, OH

Qualifications:

* Valid Ohio School Counselor certificate/license.

* Valid Ohio Teaching certificate/license.

* Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience at elementary, middle, or high school.

* Knowledge of master schedule development.

* Successful BCI & FBI background checks

* Three (3) professional references.

Duties:

* Assist and be directly responsible to the building administrators for the implementation of guidance services.

* Maintain appropriate counseling records and other documentation as required on students, including but not limited to documentation of student meetings, agency referrals and phone calls.

* Coordinate and implement individual, small group and classroom counseling activities designed to assist students in developing skills in the areas of self-esteem, healthy social emotional interpersonal relationships, peaceful conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques, substance abuse prevention, and any other relevant societal or community issues and/or concerns.

* Implement effective prevention and intervention strategies that address the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

* Work to coordinate and implement support services, network and make referrals to community agencies and resources to help provide support for students, family and staff.

* Serve as the gatekeeper for the buildings when referrals are made to outside agencies for individual and family support services.

* Work in collaboration to coordinate and implement support services, as well as prevention and intervention activities that help to support students, family and staff.

* Assist the building administrators with staff development programs designed to encourage the school staff to establish more effective ways of dealing with individual needs and the enhancement of school climate, including but not limited to the following:

* SEL for Student/Staff

* Suicide Protocol

* Child Abuse/Neglect

* Drug and Alcohol Concerns

* Asset Development

* De-Escalation Techniques

* Career Advising and Awareness

* Inclusive Safe Environment

* Needs of Diverse Populations

* Work with family and school liaison in support of students in areas of attendance, conduct, academic performance and general child welfare including parenting programs, workshops and home visits.

* Remain current with the scope and sequence of the district instructional program through scheduled updates with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at counselor meetings and current professional issues.

* Work cooperatively with the building administrators and other staff with:

* Transitioning students from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school.

* Serving as a resource on counseling and problem solving for other staff members.

* Ensuring all students are pursig their most appropriate cours of student/intervention, and/or enrichment.

* Work in cooperation with the building School Community Liaisons to help eliminate those non-academic barriers that impact regular student attendance, academic success, positive peer-to-peer, and student-to-adult relationships.

* Assist in student monitoring of individual/group student performance/progress data to identify gaps and work within the goals of the Ohio Improvement Process to develop supports.

* Align counseling, school goals and mission to provide consistent support to students in academic programs.

* Use data to conduct program monitoring, assess implementation and effectiveness and make adjustment for program improvement.

* Maintenance/inventory of SEL curriculum for PK-8 Schools.

* Provide individualized coaching support to staff in implementation of the Second Step SEL programs and the integration of SEL skills in the instructional day.

* Co-present SEL professional development with middle school principals to support SEL implementation and integration.

* Developing SEL professional development with District/Building Leadership.

* Abide by the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Warren Board of Education pertaining to classroom teachers and the teaching process.

* Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal, the Superintendent of Schools, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Supervisor of Community Outreach and Grant Development or his/her designee.

Salary: Placement on Salary Table A contingent upon degree and prior experience.
