Job Description:

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: LPCCs conduct initial assessments to evaluate clients' mental health concerns, symptoms, and needs. They may use standardized tests and diagnostic tools to formulate diagnoses based on criteria from the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).

  • Treatment Planning: LPCCs develop personalized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, setting goals and objectives for therapy. These plans may incorporate various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, or other evidence-based modalities.

  • Psychotherapy/Counseling: LPCCs provide individual, group, couples, and family therapy sessions to address clients' emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges. They facilitate discussions, provide psychoeducation, teach coping skills, and offer support to help clients achieve their therapeutic goals.

  • Crisis Intervention: LPCCs may intervene in crisis situations, such as suicidal ideation, self-harm, or acute mental health episodes, to stabilize clients and ensure their safety. They collaborate with emergency services and other mental health professionals as needed.

  • Advocacy and Referral: LPCCs advocate for clients' rights and access to appropriate mental health services. They may also refer clients to other professionals or community resources for specialized care, such as psychiatrists, medical doctors, support groups, or social services.

  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: LPCCs maintain accurate and confidential records of client sessions, assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with legal and ethical standards. They may also prepare reports and communicate with other healthcare providers as part of interdisciplinary care teams.

  • Ethical Practice: LPCCs adhere to professional codes of ethics and legal regulations governing mental health practice. They maintain boundaries, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity in their interactions with clients, respecting diversity and promoting inclusivity.

  • Continuing Education and Supervision: LPCCs engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance their clinical skills and stay updated on advancements in the field of mental health. They may participate in supervision, consultation, or peer review to ensure the quality of their practice.
