About the Team

ACCEL Schools is seeking a highly-qualifiedLead Counselor in Ohio who is dedicated to providing a superior education for all students in our upcoming 2024-2025 school year! OHDELA is a tuition-free online public school in Ohio for Grades K-12. The Ohio Distance and Electronic Learning Academy helps Ohio online K-12 students thrive in their schoolwork and in life. At OHDELA, we empower students to be their best by enabling them to learn in ways that are right for them—at home, at their proper level, and at their own pace. ACCEL Schools uses a cutting-edge 21st-century curriculum, which can be accessed online and through a variety of traditional methods.

In addition to the duties of a regular School Counselor, the Lead Counselor ensures the Counseling team is working in a comprehensive School Counseling model that meets or exceeds the ASCA model. They will use data to drive the development of programs and policies that meet the needs of OHDELA students, families, and staff.

**Ohio residence and Counselor Certification are required for this role**

Please note – while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.

About the Opportunity

  • Create and maintain a comprehensive, K-12 Guidance Program for OHDELA that adheres to ASCA standards and ethical practices
  • Suggest professional development that will meet the needs of the team and overall school
  • Represent the counseling team at leadership meetings
  • Evaluate School Counselors in conjunction with the Principal
  • Create and maintain data required by the administration team
  • Participate as a member of the PBIS school team (Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies
  • Deliver proactive guidance curriculum to individuals and groups
  • Analyze student data to provide input on appropriate academic programs and interventions
  • Respond to individual and group needs with responsive counseling and programming
  • Review transfer student transcripts and records and inform appropriate course placements
  • If assigned to high school, monitor student graduation plans and conduct proactive conversations with families and students about progress towards graduation requirements
  • Maintain and review transcripts for active students and inform credit award procedures
  • Create and maintain student graduation plans
  • Provide career readiness curriculum and facilitate creation of career plans
  • Create and maintain Student 504 plans
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Web-based search engines, and database systems
  • Travels to support testing efforts and school events within the state as needed
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Organizational skills, multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to pass required background check
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned

About You

  • Valid Ohio School Counselor license
  • Bachelor's degree AND 1 year previous experience in counseling and/or advisement OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Microsoft Office and Google Suite proficiency
  • Experience with the ASCA model
  • Experience with K-12 online learning
  • Experience with Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality
  • Demonstrates a reliable, dependable, and trustworthy work ethic
  • Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations
  • Ability to make sound judgments after all available information has been gathered or communicated
  • Demonstrates a mature attitude and insight into matters affecting department, self and / or school welfare
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to learn new technologies and acquire new skills through independent study, professional training, and from more senior team members
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
