Oglethorpe University, Atlantas leading private, Liberal Arts University is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic professional to serve as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is accountable for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine department. Primary duties include the prevention, recognition, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses; documentation of athletic injuries and illnesses; coordinating insurance claims; supervision of student workers; coordinating inventory and other administrative duties. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefit package, including employer paid health insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, tuition waivers and much more. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Summary:
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer to develop, coordinate and administer a comprehensive sports medicine program. Ideally, we are seeking a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coordinator (CSCS) for Oglethorpe Universitys intercollegiate sports and provide professional and administrative services necessary for the implementation and expansion of our program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Shares the responsibility with the Head Athletic Trainer and the athletic coach for ensuring that all athletes have had physical examinations prior to the start of any season. This may require working with and assisting the team physician or sports clinic personnel.
Shares the responsibility with the Head Athletic Trainer for ensuring that all SAA guidelines and NCAA regulations are fulfilled with regard to Athletic Training coverage at SAA and NCAA events.
Shares the responsibility with the Head Athletic Trainer for providing, either directly or indirectly, for immediate treatment or first aid for injured athletes during the course of athletic events or practices.
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with making suitable arrangements for injured athletes to get the necessary medical advice and treatment from physicians or available sports medicine clinics when the extent of the injury warrants such referral.
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in determining techniques for and ensuring the adequate protection of athletes when required for participation in either athletic events or practices.
With the advice and under the direction of those physicians working with the athletic department, assist the Head Athletic Trainer with insuring the proper rehabilitative therapy or post-injury care for athletes, utilizing available devices and facilities.
Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the administration of the training facility, i.e. inventories and general maintenance problems.
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with establishing and maintaining records of all injuries, evaluations, doctor's reports, treatments, taping and rehabilitative treatment given to anyone in the training room. Develop strength and conditioning protocols within guidelines and regulations of the NSCA

Qualifications
Applicant must have a Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training, Masters Degree preferred, Sports Medicine or related field, attained national accreditation from the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC), and be licensed or eligible to be licensed by the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers which is supervised by the Secretary of State. CSCS preferred or willingness to obtain within one calendar year of employment. They also must carry First-Aid/CPR/AED certification for the professional rescuer and maintain that certification.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Broad-based technical knowledge and skills related to athletic training and sports injuries.
Proficient with rehabilitation program planning, administrative and supervisory skills.
Teaching and counseling skills.
Ability to deal effectively with student athletes, coaches, physicians, and others outside the University in carrying out athletic training functions.
Successful candidate should also be knowledgeable of and committed to the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Title IX, and the SAA.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This position requires work in a normal office environment as well as on a variety of athletic venues; typically running, bending, crouching and stooping; use of tools requiring high dexterity is required as well as occasional lifting of up to 25lbs; use of office equipment, and alternative work schedule is also required.
