Job Summary: The CRNA Manager is responsible for the overall management, planning, direction, supervision, and coordination of the Anesthesia Department. This involves clinical affairs; workforce recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention; student education; research/quality initiatives; and budget management. This individual provides clinical services as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) as 60-80% of their effort, this will be determined by MVP and Practice Board President. Works with other department leaders to establish and maintain the highest possible standard of clinical practice and staffing. She/he collaboratively defines metrics of clinical competency of the CRNAs with department clinical leadership. The individual participates in person-power workgroup meetings to address department staffing needs that pertain to the CRNA Division. Nurtures the collaborative practice model to ensure excellence in patient care.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and provide recommendations regarding facility anesthesia policies and procedures and other clinical policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Provide input into the purchasing of anesthesia equipment needed to add new services and/or maintain and improve existing service.
  • Participate in the Practice Board (PB), meeting if required.
  • Participate, as an ex officio member, in sub committees (as assigned).
  • Work with the Practice Board to ensure Peer Review Process is completed for all anesthesia providers, in accordance with facility policies and bylaws.
  • Assist in AAAHC survey preparation and survey process and maintenance of standards, also engage the Practice Board in this process.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback regarding competence of anesthesia staff, seek Practice Board input into this process.
  • Develop and annually review anesthesia protocols appropriate for the facility.
  • Provide input into the facility approved formulary for anesthesia medications and emergency medications and equipment.
  • Participate in QAPI activities and actively work to engage other physicians in this activity.
  • Work with all anesthesia providers to ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as the facility’s policies.
  • Participate in Infection Control Program.
  • Ensure appropriate supervisor is provided for non-physician anesthesia providers.

Education and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • CRNA must complete the requirements for a degree or diploma from an education program in nurse anesthesia approved by the state Board of Nursing.
  • If the nurse anesthesia program was completed after January 1, 2008, then the program must be at a Master’s degree level or higher.
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree required.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) preferred.
  • The individual must be certified by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists or from another certifying body approved by the Board or be in the process of acquiring such certification.
  • Current state RN and CRNA licensure required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
  • This individual must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
  • Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.
  • Two (2) years clinical experience as a CRNA and one year of supervisory/leadership experience is preferred.

This role requires continuous activity levels in areas such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and reaching. It also requires dexterity in motion/flexibility. Ability to lift, push or pull 35 or more. Must be able to differentiate colors and successfully pass color blind screening.
Work Environment
This job operates in a clinic and procedure room environment. There is potential to be exposed to blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. Involves exposure to Glutaraldehyde/Rapicide (Refer to SDS manual as needed). Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
