PCBL Ogden Weber Technical College Learning Center Teacher - English


The teaching position will vary according to the school, subject, and/or grade being taught. However most school teacher jobs contain elements of each of these typical responsibilities including teaching, student management, administrative tasks and extracurricular activities. All employees agree to follow Board Policy, as well as abide by the rules of the District’s Procedural Manual and Common Contract.


PCBL Learning Center on the Ogden Weber Technical College Campus

Ogden School District and Ogden-Weber Technical College are partnering to create a school that gives all students opportunities for authentic work and a pathway to their future education, career, and success. Students will attend the learning center on the campus of the OWTC, on either an A day, B day or combination of both to study English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Business Leadership while earning a certification from OWTC in a unique environment that will infuse career and technology education and pathway completion to help students successfully transition to postsecondary and/or career opportunities upon graduation. Students may return to their boundary high school to take elective classes on the alternating days and for extracurricular activities/athletics as well as participate in online courses. The courses offered at the learning center will be aligned to the Personalized, Competency Based Learning Model (PCBL)

Competency-Based Education offers the tools to take personalized learning to the next level. By addressing course-level competencies that have long-term relevance in student lives, we have greater opportunity to make learning flexible while elevating student voice. Since each child is unique, a personalized, competency-based system empowers the teacher to provide timely, differentiated support when the student needs it and ensure gaps are met before moving on. As a teacher you should be a competent professional with in-depth knowledge of teaching best practices and the Personalized, Competency Based Learning educational processes. In addition to having excellent written and verbal communication skills, our ideal candidate will also demonstrate outstanding collaboration and interpersonal abilities.

Provide scaffolded learning opportunities by utilizing tiered instruction for all students. Support learners in deepening understanding of needs, strengths, interests, and skills by soliciting feedback from learners and customizing the process.

Design a culture to empower learners to examine issues from different perspectives, think critically, and creatively problem-solve. Encourage the development of higher-order thinking skills by supporting learners in articulating and building upon the ideas of others.

General Purpose

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.


Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences - this may include explaining new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority, and in a clear and concise way so that students can understand
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare learning spaces to support PCBL culture of learning
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
  • Assign and grade student centered tasks, tests and assignments focused on mastery
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures by co-creating learning expectations with students
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
  • Participate in department and school meetings, OWTC meetings, parent meetings
  • Clearly communicate necessary information to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities aligned with PCBL

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, state
  • Single subject teaching credential or certification if teaching a specialized subject
  • State certification

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Be familiar with and abide by school district policies, and stay current in changes in such policies through procedures described by the Board
  • Establishes and fosters a cooperative working relationship with the staff of the building to which the teacher is assigned, as well as with other District personnel
  • Exercise mature and professional judgment in teaching and associations with staff and students
  • Demonstrates high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct
  • Maintains current certification in appropriate teaching areas
  • Teaches the District standards in the assigned area, utilizes effective planning for each day’s teaching/learning activities, clarifies goal and objectives of lessons and assignments, diagnoses and prescribes for student academic and effective strengths and weaknesses, evaluates student progress and achievement, and continually seeks to motivate students for the learning tasks at hand
  • Provides for reasonable care and safety of students who are assigned to them at all times - Responsible for the daily safekeeping of students in their charge; must have the ability to safely escort assigned students off school premises or otherwise manage students while in emergency situations - This includes following all appropriate crisis management protocol used by the District
  • Provides proper care and reasonable security for all District property in their custody
  • Seeks to establish a school climate, which will promote appropriate student discipline
  • Consistently supports and assists the building staff in maintaining order and discipline among students
  • Actively participates in Professional Learning Community discussions at grade and subject levels and with OWTC
  • Utilizes instructional materials and other educational resources in a competent and effective manner
  • Makes use of technology for instructional purposes as well as for record keeping, administrative and other non-instructional uses as may be required
  • Performs such other tasks and duties as assigned by the supervisor
