BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must possess the first professional law degree, i.e. Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctorate (J.D.), from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.

2. Must be an active member, in good standing, of the bar of the highest court of any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and any territory or possession of the United States.

3. This position requires you to have professional legal experience in excess of 1 year at the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector), that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.

You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:
a. Acquisition and Logistics: The portfolio principally includes support of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition in their management of the major defense acquisition programs of the Department that have USD(A&S) or ASD(A) as the milestone decision authority.
b. Ethics Attorney: Depart of Defense Standards of Conduct Office mission is aligned along three main lines of effort: establishing DoD-wide ethics policies and regulations, managing the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Designated Agency Ethics Official Agency ethics program, and providing ethics advice and counsel to OSD personnel.
c. Fiscal: Fiscal, serves as a staff attorney with continuing responsibility for legal advisory services in the area of the DoD budget. The incumbent also has responsibility for numerous special projects and assignments within the overall responsibility of the DoD General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel
d. Litigation: Provides all necessary support to the General Counsel, Principal Deputy General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel (Legal Counsel), and Director, Office of Litigation Counsel in a broad array of controversial legal problems, to include functional responsibility, and litigation involving classified information; administrative law
e. Office of Information Counsel: Provides all necessary support in a broad array of legal issues, to include functional responsibility for legal advice and services. Familiarity and/or proficiency with the Freedom of Information Act, the Privacy Act, the Federal Records Act, the Paperwork Reduction Act, and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure is preferred.
