GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is a dynamic state agency with over 4000 employees throughout the State of Texas. The Constituent Affairs Division (CAD) is the OAG’s interface with the general public. Incoming contacts from the public, whether by phone, mail, or emails, are received by CAD and are handled by CAD or routed elsewhere in the constituent contacts with the agency and accessing and answering constituent telephone inquiries.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  • Assesses and answers constituent telephone inquiries, provides information; refers and transfers callers to appropriate destination, including, but not limited to, division within the Office of the Attorney General, and various agencies and organizations contingent upon callers’ needs, and documents calls
  • Research information to assist constituents inquires
  • Performs related work as assigned
  • Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
  • Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Experience: Three years of full-time experience in administrative support, customer service, or public information; may substitute ninety credit hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis
  • Knowledge of state government
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication
  • Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
  • Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the
    entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
  • Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
  • Ability to work 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism Government, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience: Providing information services to the public, in research, writing, or public relations, general proficiency with personal computers
  • Ability to type 35 wpm
  • Other Language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak English and Spanish
