Office of Intramural Training & Education is Hiring a Research Fellow Near Bethesda, MD

About the position

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for a Research Fellow position in the Intramural Research Program (IRP), Center for Precision Health Research (CPHR), Precision Health Informatics Section (PHIS). PHIS seeks to utilize electronic health record (EHR) data to identify and understand the function of genes involved in a range of human diseases, both rare and common, with the ultimate goal of identifying new therapeutic opportunities.

The Research Fellow’s primary responsibilities will be to provide skilled computational expertise in a wide variety of projects involving genomic and phenomic analysis of human disease. This will include use of whole genome sequencing (WGS) data, genotyping, and phenotype data primarily derived from EHRs. The Fellow will likely perform GWAS, PheWAS and PheRS, among other analyses. The Research Fellow will be responsible for acquisition and adaptation, or development and documentation, of software to allow analysis of very large genomic and EHR-derived datasets. A strong candidate will have extensive biostatistical experience and be familiar with linear/logistic regression, genomic analysis including of diverse genetic ancestries, and survival analyses, among others. The Research Fellow will be responsible for initiation and management of collaborations with other research groups, both inside and outside of NIH, and will also be responsible for training and mentoring of other lab members, including postbacs, clinical fellows, and postdocs.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Candidates must have a MD or Ph.D. in a biological field and must have a minimum of five years experience in computational genomics or similar experience.
