Summary You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the FEDERAL FIRE DEPARTMENT (FFD) of COMMANDER NAVY REGION HAWAII. Duties * You will brief senior leaders or other employees on matters on firefighting activities, personnel, and equipment. * You will prepare training plans, risk assessments, or standard of response coverage documents to ensure operational readiness. * You will develop training and safety programs in accordance with regulatory agencies (e.g., Department of Defense, Occupational Health and Safety Administration [OSHA], National Fire Protection Association [NFPA]). * You will evaluate new concepts in fire prevention, hazardous materials incidents, and emergency services for incorporation into training materials. Although the work is often sedentary, it involves regular and recurring field training and site visits. Visits involve a considerable amount of physical activity which includes walking, climbing, and stooping over rough terrain sites that are not necessarily easily accessible, often under the stress of extreme smoke, heat, and fire and hazardous/toxic material exposure as well as other physical demands of firefighting. Must be able to wear protective clothing and equipment, weighing up to 100 pounds, while working in extreme heat and cold under adverse conditions such as fire and smoke. Ability to maintain alertness, self-control, and emotional stability to direct training operations. Climbs ladders and works at various heights. Must pass Navy firefighter physical examination annually and successfully participate in the ongoing Navy firefighter physical fitness program. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent is subject to work in extreme and adverse conditions during live fire training exercise and during times when filling in as the operational fire officer. Incumbent must be able to wear protective clothing and use self-contained breathing apparatus. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
