Oculus is Hiring a Research Scientist, Depth Sensing Near Redmond, WA

Reality Labs Research (RL-R) brings together a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality. The Sensors and Systems Research (SSR) team’s goal is to create ultra low power and lightweight photon-to-inference pipelines that enable all-day, always-on machine perception. The team cultivates an honest and open environment where self-motivated individuals thrive. We encourage a strong sense of ownership and embrace the ambiguity that comes with working on the frontiers of research.As a Research Scientist in SSR, you’ll partner with expert research scientists, electrical engineers, silicon engineers and other brilliant minds to build novel prototypes integrated with advanced AR/VR headsets. You’ll foster scientific explorations and generate viable paths to the consumer products that will connect people in meaningful ways for decades to come. You’ll work on a wide range of technology, from sensor design, bring up, validation to standing up prototypes and system level demonstration and exploration. Research Scientist, Depth Sensing Responsibilities:
  • Develop ultra-low-power high-performance depth sensing system
  • Research on optimizing post-processing algorithms to improve computation efficiency and system robustness
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build prototypes

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • 2 years hands-on experience in depth sensing system prototyping
  • 2 years experience in algorithm development for depth sensing post-processing and 3D reconstruction
  • 2 years experience in depth sensing system modeling
  • Proficient in Python, C/C , Matlab
  • Knowledge in image sensor operation
  • Knowledge in optical design in a camera system
  • Knowledge in projector design in a depth sensing system

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in applying machine learning based algorithm to improve the performance of a depth sensing system
  • Proven track record of developing state-of-the-art depth sensing solutions for an AR/VR system
  • Experience in photorealistic rendering based depth system modeling
  • Track record of publications in top journals and conferences in the field of depth sensing
