Octagon Talent Solution is looking for a Director of Agriculture & Regenerative Farming Operations for one of our Clients in the Port Saint Lucie area. The role involves leading research, teaching, and innovation centered around sustainable agriculture practices, developing realistic solutions to diversify large-scale regenerative agriculture BMAPs, and cultivating the next generation of sustainable farmers in Florida and the Caribbean. The Director of Regenerative Agriculture will also have the opportunity to co-develop programs such as seed banks, environmental crop exploration, and future technologies like AI and drones for farming operations. The ideal candidate would be knowledgeable about current trends in food production and sustainable agriculture, able to approach research and development with an interdisciplinary focus, and experienced in developing student-centered, interdisciplinary, and collaborative educational systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development: Leading and implementing strategies to advance regenerative agriculture, including creating annual strategic plans and budgets.
  • Program Management: Overseeing the overall implementation and management of regenerative agriculture.
  • Leadership and Influence: Leading, influencing, and managing all aspects of regenerative food and farming strategies.
  • Collaboration with all Agriculture units: Working with Agriculture business silos to advance regenerative agriculture, which may involve evaluating greenhouse gas emissions and other sustainability metrics.
  • Reporting and Communication: Reporting to senior management and collaborating with other key stakeholders, such as the COO & ESG Director. Report annually on activities.
  • Manage the budget and assets of the Regenerative Agriculture programs.
  • Contribute to the larger mission of the Company in service to the Company Education and Training Centers.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Experience designing, implementing, and operational oversight of sustainability programs, sustainability-related coordination efforts, and managing and developing a sustainable agriculture conservation behavioral change program in the U.S. and Caribbean islands. Experience with BMAP systems, utilizing greenhouse quantification procedures and methodology, mentoring, guiding, and working with students, faculty, staff, and/or any relatable environmental, economic, or societal component of a sustainability program within our overall plan. Experience with communication (written and verbal presentations), research, and multi-constituent collaboration.

  • A Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Biology, Environmental Science, or Agricultural Sustainability, is required.
  • At least five years of professional experience in higher education or research in any sector, particularly transdisciplinary research or team science.
  • Technical Expertise: A strong understanding of regenerative agricultural practices, including knowledge of diversified crop rotations, no- or low-tillage, and rotational grazing. Additionally, expertise in row crop production, tropical agriculture, and sustainable food production systems is valuable.
  • Leadership and Management: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams of people, as well as the ability to oversee and evolve agricultural programs. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead diverse teams are also important.
