Kennel Technician/Attendant Job Description
Reports to: Hospital Manager & Boarding Lead.
Position Summary:
Our animal care facility is looking for an animal lover to join our boarding team as a Kennel Technician. To qualify for this role, you must have a positive attitude and a genuine love for dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes. In this role, you do more than cleaning and disinfecting our kennels — you also learn animal care and behavior basics while assisting our team with feeding, grooming, and walking tasks. Having previous experience in a pet care environment or kennel management is a plus, but we will provide training to the right candidate.
Position Responsibilities- Essential:
The list of tasks is illustrative and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by the position. Other duties will be required as assigned.
· To thoroughly clean and disinfect all kennels and boarding areas.
· Responsible for daily feeding and monitoring eating habits of the pets in our care.
· Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, signs of illness, disease, and discontent.
· Reporting signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to General Practice (GP) Technicians and Veterinarians (DVM).
· Utilize animal handling skills to ensure a safe and positive environment for the pets.
· Groom and provide care/affection for the pets:
o Toe Nail Trims (TNT)
o Baths
o Brushing
o Etc.
· Walk/exercise the pets.
· Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment/tools/etc., used.
· Properly place pets in kennels and organizing belongings.
· Laundry
· Wash and sterilize food and water dishes.
· Cleaning up any trash or stool materials off the premises.
· Check in and check out process- including:
o Phone calls to clients.
o Setting up reservations and taking deposits.
o Setting up kennels/cubbies and ensuring proper medical notation is taken for medications, expected services/add-ons, and any unforeseen treatments/updates on pets.
o Communicating care expected and care provided during the stay.
o Communicating changes in animal’s behavior and key things to look for when a pet goes home after a stay.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications:
· Education:
o Educational background- High school diploma or equivalent.
· Experience:
o Some pet experience is a must:
o Be confident in ability to take charge/ be in control of animals.
o Ability to restrain all sizes of dogs and give medications as needed.
o Ability to bathe, do toe nail trims, and brush.
o Excellent client service skills.

o Professionalism and ability to communicate clearly.

o Ability to foster a collaborative team environment.
o Flexible schedule including:
§ Holidays.

§ Evenings.

Working Conditions:
· Indoor facility that is heated and air conditioned.
· Outdoor facility exposed to sun and the elements.
o Weather permitting is dependent upon length of time outdoors.
· Exposed to animals (cats and dogs), loud noises (barking/animal sounds), and mild exposure to the outdoors.
· Ability to restrain and control all animal (cat and dog) breed sizes and types with ability to lift up to 50lbs and team lifting greater than that weight.
· Required to work weekends, holidays, and evenings (usually off by 7:00pm).
· Communicate all emergency situations and essential information to Boarding Lead and Hospital Manager.
