The Job Details are as follows: As a Senior Data Scientist, you will lead a technical team of data scientists and data engineers whose efforts seek to develop and communicate an understanding of OCLC’s global network of 10,000 libraries, their collections, and their patrons. The data science team collaborates with teams across the entire company, from Dublin, OH to our office in the Netherlands; they apply best practices and creative innovation to a diverse collection of OCLC’s largest datasets to extract meaningful understanding for our customers amidst the richness and heterogeneity of their collections and members. The team’s standards for excellence make them the leaders in OCLC’s innovation and product evolution, and they are expanding to make OCLC a force in the era of data-driven businesses. Responsibilities: Lead and coordinate a team of data scientists and analysts to review, scale, and enhance operationalized statistical and machine learning models and algorithms, and quantify improvements in terms of business efficiency or customer experience Create repeatable processes and scalable data products by, for example, automating feedback loops for production statistical or machine learning models Influence functional teams across the organization to develop best practices and foster a companywide sense of data literacy Identify areas of opportunity for data science to effect change and drive strategic business impact Maintain engagement with the data science community and current industry developments to assist in driving technical data science team vision and strategy Assume a mentor role for other team members; foster the professional development of fellow data scientists and data analysts Requirements: Master’s Degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics, for example) and 5 years professional experience in a data science role or PhD in a quantitative field and 3 years professional experience in a data science role Expert proficiency in a scripting language such as R or Python, including Python data libraries (numpy, pandas, matplotlib, scikit-learn) Intermediate proficiency in a low-level or performant language (e.g. C or Golang) Expert proficiency in working within a cloud computing environment using software development best practices Experience automating production-quality statistical or machine learning models at scale with expert understanding of their underlying mathematical and statistical theory Experience and expertise decomposing complex business problems into mathematical ones and developing solutions having measurable business impact Self-starting attitude; ability to spearhead new data science initiatives and collaboration across functional teams Demonstrates excellent communication skills with ability to explain statistic and mathematical concepts to non-experts Demonstrates a willingness to experiment and to confront the hardest or most complex problems Working Conditions: Normal office environment.
